My outside CV boots have completely split in two, I went to the local garage and was quoted full service and four new boots £400 for cash. Anyway i dont have that kind of cash lurking about so im going to change them myself, so any advice on making the job go as smoothly as possible would be appreciated.
Also is there anything else worth checking/changing whilst doing it?

Look on ebay for the ones you glue together. About £35 takes about 1Hr to do.

i've just done mine and so could share my experience, I am away until sunday evening so remind me!

why not do the service yourself, and have the boots done by a mechanic. Horrible job.

I don't know much about the CV boot replacement, but if the clip together ones are a affordable 'workaround' then why not. At least the OP can keep mobile.

What do garages consider to be a service. I personally have never paid for one in my whole life, but I imagine it is something like oil, fuel & air filter change along with a few other checks. I did this last Sunday for about £60.00.

Regards

Alan

Full svc is usually all filters oil change, strip clean and adjust rear brakes, full car inspection like check belts and all components, grease nipples, all levels, adjust clutch if adjustable, grease pipes, tire pressures, test antifreeze, adjust door catches and grease check straps .
