changing battery leads ?

ok im now thinking of changing my battery leads. due to the trouble ive been having starting recently.

i want leads that are longer and more universal so i can change batteries easier with better connections and
have a better universal fit.

i have all the parts i scrounged them today.

am i right in thinking

the live goes from battery directly to starter motor

the earth goes from battery directly to the engine earth point


any other tips or things i might want to add for later on

yes you are correct extreme, pos + to starter solenoid, neg - to earth. :thumb2

The existing positive lead is in a harness with a couple of other wires, I would just cut the battery cable ends off and cable tie your new lead to the existing one. Make sure your new lead is the same size or thicker than the existing lead, as a smaller lead will inhibit the amperage that the starter motor draws possibly overheating and cause the starter to struggle. The same goes for your negative lead.

thats exactly what i was thinking rather than remove and replace it from the trunking i thought id just strap the new one alongside.

thats why i needed to know the start and finish point of the leads.
im hoping there are no branches off within the trunking

the new cable is very heavy duty but a lot more ply able plus i will be able to fit more universal batteries

There wont be any Ts off from the main battery cable along the way to the starter, any other supplies will be on separate wires attached to the starter main terminal and in some cases the battery terminal.
That can be left as is when fitting the new one.

Where can you get a lead as thick as this? I've looked at a lot of sites but have not had any success!
