change my t2 man for a t2 auto good or bad?

hi there i have a terrano 2 2.7 tdi se lwb manual which i upgraded to from a maverick they have always been great and never really let me down
the problem is the mrs can only really drive an auto i was wondering if this would be ok to tow my 1600kg fully laden twin wheel caravan as i heard the autos are not as good towing is this right ? i do like the idea of the lazy driving etc its just ive been offered a 2001 plate 2.7 tdi auto lwb fully loaded at a very good price cheers and thanks for all your help again:thumb2

Auto's are great & can't see why you would have any probs with it towing your van:thumb2I'm sure someone with an auto will fill you in on how they find theirs copes:augie

Must be honest, after doing a good few hundred miles in an autobox hire car I am a fan.

If anything youre wanting to tow comes within the reduced capacity I'd go for it :thumb2

I have 2003 auto and have had no probs what so ever. Go off road a lot no probs.

I use my 2.7TD T2 Mistral to tow Bailey Paegent Provence 5-Berth and found it easier than the manual T2 2.4 SLX Petrol that i used to have.

TBH though, your towing weight is only just inside the auto's capability..........

How can the auto only tow 1700, but a swb manual can tow 2800?! Surely the auto being LWB means it would be more capable?

I suspect the fluid clutch on the auto is something to do with it.

hi again not been on for a while the origanal auto t2 we looked at fell through but have just bought a 2000 w reg se+ auto lwb in a light sky blue ish colour collect on staurday cant wait my caravan is around 1350kg maximum permissable weight is 1600kg got figures the wrong way round cheers again for all your help

when you are towing, if you switch overdrive off until you get nearly up to speed it makes life easier. Similarly, if you select Sport on the three-way switch (the one thats AT/snow/S) it holds the gears a bit longer before changing up, making initial progress a bit easier. Enjoy!!!
