First things first, before you jack the truck p and remove the wheels, crack the allen bolts, its a lot easier to do with the wheel still on the ground

when the bolts are loose jack up the truck and take the wheel and the hub off, then remove the circlip thats under the hub.

with this off you can now move the c.v joint backwards giving the needed room for doing the bottom ball joints

also remove the tie/track rod end

next go round with a wire brush and clean up all the bolt and nut heads

ok now its time to get busy

first remove the big nut off the top ball joint, this requires a 22mm combination or ratchet spanner

then remove the big nut off the lower ball joint, this is where the 27mm combination or ratchet spanner comes in to play

then undo all the nuts and bolts holding the lower ball joint in place.

you can move the stub axle around very easily now because you undid the the tie rod and removed the hub and guppins that hold the assembly together

the next step is to release the ball joints from where they are held in place, lower the jack down off the wishbone onto the axle stand which is on the front cross member then begin the procedure there are two ways to do this, ball joint splitter or big hammer, i chose the big hammer approach because if you hit it in the right place both ball joints come out at the same time

with both ball joints now out its time to put the new ones in, first start by bolting the bottom one into place

1465383_10152006601892649_4743456_n.jpg

then fasten it to the wishbone

1461706_10152006602037649_22706240_n.jpg

only tighten up the wishbone nuts and bolts for now,

then put the top ball joint in

995550_10152006602347649_1582452271_n.jpg

now jack up the wish bone this will push up the holder into place you will also need a pry bar to pull the top arm down so the ball joint goes into place, then put on the nut to hold it there.

then tighten everything up and dont forget to grease ur nipple :naughty:

then fasten ur tie rod back into place and put the hub back together,

good job but please tell me the hub wasn't hanging by the flexi brake pipe:eek:

no it wasn't, you cant see it in the pics but it was actually propped up lol

it just so happens im doing mine tomorrow plus wheel bearing discs n pads for good measure

when I done mine I broke my ball joint splitter trying to get the lower ball joints off . the top one is easy . it took me a day to do all 4 ball joints and the track rods . it took me about 1 1/2 hours per lower to break the joint with a ball joint fork and a hammer . how did you get yours done with just a hammer ?

Not much mention of the swear jar, lol.Good post though.
