Do any of you bright sparks have an idea where I can get around half a dozen of the (now illegal) 12" polystyrene ceiling tiles. We are having a new central heating boiler fitted and the removal of the old one will leave an area of damaged/missing tiles.
I have no intention of re-tiling the entire ceiling, so if I am unable to come across some replacements 'er indoors will be giving me grief until kingdom come!

Eeeeek

I see the easy way is to replace the missing tiles. On the other hand.. Imagine of something happened :(

I would not under any circumstances be refitting new tiles, rather stripping the existing and making good to the ceiling, they are a death trap, in event of fire they drip burning liquid onto you that sticks to your skin, you will be incapacitated in seconds, Rick

Some years ago, we attended a small house fire, me and my mate went in with BA sets on and put the fire out, when we came out, our kit and helmets were ruined, covered in molten ceiling tiles.
That stuff sticks like sh1t to a blanket :eek:

Thanks for all the advice guys, I know they're not ideal, but until I get around to decorating the kitchen (and removing all the tiles), I still need a few to patch the area where the old boiler is being removed - if anyone has some leftovers salted away in the loft or the garage the missus would be eternally grateful!

Compromise! How about getting some hardboard or something and cutting to correct shape. Chamfer the edges and paint whole lot same colour job done. Itll never be identical but will patchup for a while.

Please be careful

god forbid if they did catch, youd never forgive yourself mate

if your gonna do it then your gonna do it, I guess on one hand its survived that many years hassle free, but, you know how it goes, tempting fate ect.

Also no idea where you would pick up such things anymore?

possibly off a demo site/ job lot of old tiles? :nenau

That could be a plan Jim, I've got some MDF offcuts in the garage that are about the same thickness.
Sweety, B&Q (and apparently all other retailers) are no longer allowed to sell them, elf n safety and all that, but thanks for your input guys.
