CCTV hints, tips general advice please

hi,
my mum wants me to set up a cctv system on the fairly low cost.

my thought is wired cameras as even wireless ones need a power
feed so might as well run cable as not that far from a common
aerial feed to drop it onto her tvs.

what of camera types, pvr etc to record, gather a memory card
type will store several hours or thousands of pictures in even
a 2gb unit.

hope is that having system will be deterent to needing to capture
evidence....

thinking £99 pvr camera kit with option to add further camera at
£49 in argos?, looked at maplin and whilst good range almost
too much stuff listed and easy to run away with cheque book?

I have an old pc the attic with video card installed , 80g hard drive and these cameras from fleebay

I then control this pc via "logmein " over the internet with our main computer downstairs works well for a cheap set up

suppose being on wifi, mind would need to sort a router for her though have
spare ones would enable access via pc, was thinking onto aerial though
would mean rigging up old vcr which wouldnt hold as much incriminating...

we have a dvd player with a built in hard drive (80g I think) it records our four cameras (via a sequencer and a hard drive) for a week and then starts again. It is enough for most things.

Our cameras and sequencer are basic B&W models with night vision IR LED's from Northern tool, they must be about 7 years old now and are going fine :thumb2

tbh its probably better to pop down to your local maplins and have a chat with the technical staff there , they are quite knowledgable and helpfull , explain your requirements ( and budget ) , and they will point you in the right direction , you dont have to buy their stuff i guess , but it gives you an idea of whats available within your budget.
