I have put an ameteur radio setup in my T2 (not a lot going on VHF/UHF except rpt's) and was thinking about putting a CB of some description in. I have a very old Cybernet 3000 here, but I am not sure if things have 'moved on' since I used it last. So maybe I should go for a newer one. What do you recommend or do yo have a setup that you would like to sell?

I know that there are new CB's that cover the euro channels as well as the UK ones...

Thinking about where to put it, as I don't want to rip all the center dash out again to fit one in the cubby hole near the auto stick. Don't want to put in on the dash top either, maybe on the side of the dash?

Photee's of your setup would assist :thumb2

I've got a CB going spare. Does UK and EU channels (80 in total). Give me a PM if your interested.

That Cybernet is a nice bit of kit. It rather depends on who you want to chat to and when.

UK 40 is still popular, certainly 19 is full of truckers on the M6 with just general natter really. If you are out with friends and you all have UK40 then its fine. CEPT (EU40) is the way to go if you want to chat with people further afield and most rigs are now dual frequency anyway, hone are the days of having naughty rig mods with them boarded out to cover the CEPT or even AM/FM switchovers.

That said when i'm in convoy these days (classic car runs) I tend to use PMR446 for short distance comms as its cheap and good enough plus not everyone wants to stick an aerial on their car for a CB.

So does my Cybernet CB's freq's OK for use now?

Do you still 09 for emergencies and 14 for a general breaking channel?

Fez_uk - What make/model is yours and what £ are you looking for inc P&P if my Cybernet 3000 won't work. PM me :thumb2

Any photee's of T2 installs?

I've got a few rigs just UK 40 Chicken Boxes

I've got an Intek M150 Plus in the car with a nice DGR111 Taxi Aerial tuned for the 27MHz frequency with a sneaky KL203 burner under the seat to get out a bit better

I've also got an old school Amstrad 901B at home with an Amtron 99 on a 15ft scaffold pole on the floor strapped to a coniffer out of view as my mom wouldn't let me put T and K brackets on the side of the house :doh

Also got a newly obtained Maycom handheld in immaculate condition that stays in my NI Patrol Pack along with my Toughbook that goes with me everywhere

I used to have an Amstrad 901, they have oblong coloured LEDS?

So the early UK approved FM rigs can still be used today?

If that is the case, then I will dig out the old Cybernet 3000 and try that. Will just need a new antenna, any recommendations on type/make etc?

Sirio 827 :sly

I have a very good radio out on permanent loan ..... superstar 360 :naughty , but I miss my stalker 9 fdx

Lol ok ok, just get yourself a silver rod or something.

My Amtron 99 was reasonable to be fair

Still too big for my T2 :augie

I want a mobile antenna - try again :clap

get a dv27 :thumb2 ...... or a springer

I was looking at a springer the mini one at 99cm length, can't really see the 1.55mtr one on the T2.

I was trying to think of the aerial I started my AM CB days and yes it was the DV27 with the SWR adjustment at the top :thumb2

And there was a DV27 mini version... thank you for that reminder.

iconic aerial the dv27 .......ah memories  , but of course the springer is pre tuned whereas the dv 27 isn't

The old dv 27.Was a good twig when i used the old am am cb's

Tbh,i don't bother much with CB radio these days.Too many muppets on it.They have boots on and just sit on ch 19 all day long.

Its easy to fabricate an aerial mount to fit to the rear spare wheel carrier then you could use a DV27 (the coil is at the top on these so will peek over your roof) - piece of 13 or 14 SWG steel bent to 90 degrees with two holes drilled - one for the aerial base mount and one for the top mounting bolt of the spare wheel holder.

Be warned, though the DV is a good twig it isnt robust and wont handle a lot of power so if its going to get clobbered go for a whip with the coil at the base but the coil should be roof height really.
