Just got me a mag mount centre loaded antenna for the hand held CB I got for the Wales trip, CB has a PL9 connector so goes straight on, low and behold sitting in the car at home and got a three way conversation, listened for a while to see if I could get any idea as to where they were, when one guy said he was between Marks and sparks and the sea, as we do not have a M & S in Bexhill concluded he must be in Hastings, now I thought that is pretty good range for a CB, then a 4 th came on although a little noisy I could hear him OK but the guy in Hastings could not so he asked where this 4 th guy was, he came back North Wales, I listened for a while before got fed up and started sorting the workshop out, but NORTH WALES he must be running a burner with a big antenna, What do you all think? Rick

Used to experience skip when on AM many years ago, but could never get back to them even tho I was running a 100 watt burner, with a DV27F gutter mount on the truck, I have had RF burns from it but still could not hold any sort of conversation with another truck going the other direction for more than a couple of minutes, Rick

not many people on cb these days so the frequency is a lot less congested , means stations further away can be heard .

I suspect the person in north wales was either high up or not running totally legal eqpt tho :augie

agree with fez tho , skip helps too

I had a "skip" one way incoming call from Greenland from some guys planning a polar exploration trip  They were testing tents would you believe  Trouble was I couldn't find a channel they weren't on :doh
I think the aerial is far too good as I often get incoming from far far away :lol

was 100% skip. I used to just be able to get into the south west england on groundwave with 100w on SSB with a big 5/8 wave base antenna on a 20ft pole at 2000ft above sea level.

was listening to the same guys today, not the Wales one, seems that two of them are mobile in I suspect Taxi's the 3rd in a base station as talking book cases and telly, I tried to call them but made no comments on my call so guess they could not hear me, Rick
