We've been thinking of putting a cb radio in my t2 for some time and after the e.m.rally, we are going to put one in. Any ideas on what type to get? It doesn't need to be high-tech, just somthing to keep in contact with you all when on the move. Ohh yeah, and not to expensive :nono any ideas:confused:

Maplins cheapest :thumb2 got one a short while back, the aficionados will slag it off from the data sheet but for talking to people nearby in a convoy itll work a treat for budget dosh :thumb2

cb choice , depends on what you intend to use it for and how often ,

if using for green laning occasionally ...... any cheap cb will suffice providing its set up properly.

if using a cb more often , then perhaps its a better idea to get a higher quality radio ,as the cheaper ones tend to have a poor channel rejection ratio , this probably means nothing to most , but for short distances ( ie green laning ) you wont really notice , but for longer distance conversations it may become hard to work out which channel someone is actually transmitting on as the cheaper radios will pick up signals on other channels and not be able to reject them ...... hope that makes sense

but at the end of the day ,basically , you get what you pay for

Ok I will look at both qualities and prices and see if there's any that look good. I'll post a link to any that might work:thumb2

Can't find anything. Dad said he had a old cb which we need to look for. He thinks it's in the loft:doh. I'll put pics of it on aswell as the make when he finds it. I'll be going to the loft to bring down the old tv aerial so I'll take a look up there:naughty

there is a lot to consider with a cb as its not just the cb u need there is
cb
mic
arial
arial mount
arial cable
power lead for cb with inline fuse

thats why sometimes a stater pack is sometimes a good option as u get all this included and can work out cheaper in long run

have a look at 4x4cb they have some good starter packs ( and no i not on comission just trying to be helpful):thumbs

Well its the right band (UK40 a.k.a 27/81) and modulation (FM). But I'd be very surprised if it worked and even lasted a few months. But if any beaten rig will work it's the older ones.

it is quite old but it was working and it worked fine. hopfully it just needs a good clean up:nenau

not all mikes will work with all rigs , so beware , the commtron cb40f was quite a legendary rig in its day ( some 30 years ago ) it looks also like you will need a power lead , but fgs make it has in line fuse , it might be a idea to connect it to 12v once you have a power lead , but DO NOT TRANSMIT , just check it lights up before going any further , mikes are around a tenner on fleabay * if you can find one ) , might need wiring to your particular rig , power leads might be a bit more difficult to get hold of , try rocket radio , or i will have a rummage in my box of bits

ill put pics on of it powered (if it powers):doh. do you think i could just connect it stright to the battery on the t2 to test it? i dont want to short out anything:doh

knights sell basic mics pre wired for any radio, £8. Not a bad price.

I'd also buy a basic fused lead from knights etc then wire it to the wire already in-place. Then insulate the connections. Unless you use crimps.
Or if you are handy at soldering take out the old wire and attach the new one.

Then find a way of securing the wire so it doesn't move about or be pulled out by accident. Also maybe some heat shrink around where it goes into the rig so the metal doesn't chafe the wire.
