CB radio, advice. cb wanted ?

can any one sugest a first cb for my T2?

i dont know any thing about them at all, or what bits id need eiter. or where to fit one?

any help??

After that you'll need some coax & plugs then prob a mag mount :smile: The link are for new gear & what i've got in my T2 but you can find some very cheap set ups on ebay second hand. As for mounting your CB most use the cubby box infront of the gear sticks, I have mine along the drivers transmition tunnel & someone has roof mounted theirs (sorry forgot who )

Hi I'm a great fan of ebay and just got my Midland as a complete kit for £30 inc aerial and mag mount. While searching I found a company on ebay doing g/tee refurbished midlands etc. Have a search on the bay and I'll try and find the company name.
Mounted mine in the cubby hole bit too. All fits in a doddle and is easy to pick power from the cigar lighter.

Definitely go for a springer type aerial like sweety has linked to and a 6" or 7" magmount which should stay put regardless of overhanging trees and bushes etc mine certainly has.

CB wise midland sets like sweety linked to are good.

Get an 80 channel set UK40 and EU40. There are tumours that we might loose the UK40 sometime in the future, might never happen but if it does you'll have the EU40 to go at.

Coax route was easy too. On mine I plonked the mag mount just behind the sunroof, then took the cable to the passenger door. Then open the door and peel back the door seal. Behind it is a lip that's just the right size for the coax to go behind.Run it forward and down the window pillar, then just behind the bolt on wing . Just below this you'll see the grommet by the door where the door cables go through. Poke your coax through it and pull it out the other side.Then depending how posh you are stuff it under the carpet or poke it up behind the glove box. From there its off to the center dash bit (4 screws and its off) and connect up. Bingo.
Oh dont forget to stick the grommet back in and push nthe door seal back firmly.

You can bring it in the driver door/seal & if you make a small hook which you can clip above the driverside ultra sonic it keeps the coax out of the way & makes it very easy to remove the aerial when you don't want it on.

i use a midland 98 very compact fits in cubby behind gear stick until can be bother to mount on dash above centre vents.

the 98 is also 80 channel and has esp, basically auto squelch keeps the crackle between transmissions to a minmum. got it on a club bulk buy about 18 months ago, try 4x4cb.com site lots of info installs.

as rarely use, have mag mount with stinger. usually centre of roof behind sunroof has forms best ground plane. then in thru rear passenger door, looping thru grab handle, down to rear of front seat and under loose fit floor mat. using grab handle keeps it closes to b pillar and out of reach of little one plus can leave assembled and will store in rear footwell. not bothered to go under seal for temp use.

long term would fit a body mount to roof and just screw in stinger as required. then route cable in rooflining and down a pillar... another job on list.

that would be me.
got the full set up off e bay for 35 quid.
its a midland 38 with a 4'roof rail mounted antenna(bought it with a mag mount but i knocked it off so i adapted a truck mirror mount to clamp to the roof bar)
i was told they are a good beginers rig as the are easy to set up and use.

interesting about mounting to rails, something to do to new ones, have aclose look at your install a weekend if ok. think davemud did same on his t2 last year. might be a good pose one on each side, the second for fm radio or ham one day. us truck style?

Or put two on in phase correctly trck style - gives good gain to front and rear at the expense of sideways propagation.

now you're talking, toyed with idea years ago when spent lot of time on motorways, any idea of complex the set up is, have got a swr meter. presume legal as not amplifying just changing shape of broadcast.

vas very easy to do. the wagon driver at work gave me a mirror mount and jim t told me just to elongate the holes so it fit round the roof bar. never been knocked off since.

to get the real truck style you need to mount the rig in your roof like i have.cant quite see the display but it only gets used when im laning so once the channel is set its ok.

I did the truck mirror mount on my roof rails about 4 years ago, got one on each side and feed the coax in down the tailgate seal and then down in a loop behind the rear bumper before coming in to the car at the bottom of the tailgate apperture. The mod I did on the mirror mount was to enlarge the holes into a slot as roof rails are thicker than mirror arms. Even went to the extreme and used stainless bolts so they don't rust.

I have heard of people making a bracket that fits between spare wheel and it's mounting.
