CB is great for pay and play sites, mile or so range, but pretty useless for all else, in the 70's I was "tarmac drifter" to start but a year later became "the wine runner" cos that is what I did, carried wine from all over France back to the UK my Mrs was "platinum pussy" leave you to work that one out, had great times, Rick

My Uncle bought mine for my Birthday when I was 14 and had Di pole fitted outside of my bedroom window.
I could get about 15 miles on a good day :augie
Spent hours on the bloody thing. There was even a CB shop in the High Street back then....

directional antenna will always improve range but mag mount on top of car is low, Rick

Dipole is not directional mounted vertically, A magmount antenna will have very similar range if it's a full size 1/4 wave whip but will be about 2.7m long! :thumb2

In the 70s I was 'Quo' :augie

Today I don't know what the hell the breaking channel is or even what band (if you have a modern CB) they use. I've tried 14, 19 and 31... nothing, now I wish I'd spent the money on something else:confused:

Still looking for a antenna mount that fits between the spare and door for my 2001 T2.

not many peeps use the cb anymore like back in the 70's and 80's.
There are a few round our way but mine is mainly for when out laning .
had my first one when I was nine,a rotel rvc 240 set up as a homebase:thumbs
I was like the kids are now with games consoles, spending all my spare time on it:lol

Dont fret, I keep hearing people but they cant hear me back, I presume this is because of directional antena as mentioned, I am merely in their path

It's because they are running more power then you or ignoring you :lol

I have the same model as Paff and Exosteve great little units I have fitted mine under passenger seat and the mic clips into socket on side of drivers seat, this could be unclipped and you would not know there is a unit in the vehicle. One thing that has changed for the better regarding old days is auto squelch all my radios before this one used to drive me mad with the static noise and I would adjust to minemise then relaise I could not hear all of the group. Auto squelch is the must have of today the radio is quite unless someone speaks to you , heaven.

Kind regards

Russell.

Finally got round to getting power for the CB sorted:thumb2
I have installed a secondary fuse box inside the car.
The bottom switch puts 12v to the relay through a 2 amp fuse so I do not have to have the ignition on but can turn every thing off if needed.
The top switch powers the CB trough a 5amp fuse, to be down rated to 2amp soon.
power from the battery to the relay is fused at 30amps after about 75mm of cable.
the relay has a built in fuse of 15amps.

So with a bit of luck all should be suitably protected.

Just leaves the middle two switched for fogs and DRL's and loads of fuse outlets for odds n sods, rear power for the coolbox and the dash cam:nenau

Have been thinking about something similar in the skoda but not thought of sticking the fusesbox in the glovebox. Even tempted to do something like that in the project Terrano.

I got the fuse box from CPC, but the mounting options were limited, hence the location but it does keep it all hidden:thumb2
