so now i have my new toy, how do i go about installing it:nenau
has anyone put one in a pathy r51
do i need to make a earth conection for the arial:nenau
any advise with help:bow:confused:

take power leads from battery ideally , put a inline fuse as cshould belose to the battery as possible .

or if you are just using the cb and no extra equipment , take it from the fuse box and you should be ok ( make sure it has a inline fuse in the power lead though )

as for your aerial is it a pre swr'd aerial with a mag mount ?

might be easier to tell me the aerial and if it has a round magnetic base

its a springer 3ft on a roof rail clamp i have pics

ok , its a springer , they are a pre swr'd aerial , but mounting it on a roof rack will affect the swr , its a good idea to check the swr , have you got a swr meter ? .... or can you borrow one ?

yea think i my know someone who has one

ok do they know how to use it ? .... if they do , check the swr immediately after installing the cb and aerial , if they dont , let me know i will talk you through it :thumb2

u gonna talk him through the channel 40 channel 1 way or just channel 20? cos my swr wont settle on either lol

i would never call anyone a idiot for asking about correct procedure .

ok the swr meter will have a switch marked fwd and ref

it will also have a dial / knob marked calibrate

on the back of the swr meter you will have 2 sockets marked antenna and tx ( or transmitter ) self explanatory really ....aerial goes into one , and the little lead goes into the other ..... other end of little lead into back of cb ... ok so far ?

turn cb on

switch to channel 1 , make sure switch on swr meter is set to fwd

press the switch at the side of the mike and turn the calibrate knob untill the needle on the meter goes to the end of the scale ( NOT OVER )

release mike key

switch to ref and key mike again ....... take notice of reading it should be as low as possible

once youve done that , do the same on channel 40 ..... there will be a difference in readings , but it should be minimal

cheers for that:thumbs
what u think to the mounting of ariel was going to fit it to this part of rail

if your swr wont settle on either .... check your plugs / sockets/mount/coax for damage /loose fitting

it will be fine for offroading and local CB. You have a 3ft springer which won't help, I would of got the larger springer antenna.

was worried that 5 ft would catch on to much stuff
