I checked all my CB gear to day as i'm wanting to fit it into my T2. Every thing checked out ok apart from the arial  SWR is throught the roof as I lost 2ft of the whip when it came off my car roof years ago.I've got 1ft of coil & now 3ft of whip left, I was wondering if any one knew if lengthening the coax would help bring down the SWR.

No definatley not (lenthening the coax) even with low loss stuff. You need a new antenna. I can give you some links to some CB shops if you like or search the forums or E bay. A new one will cost around a tenner, if you get the most popular springer type.

Using you rig as is, will cause expensive damage.

I'm not using it as I don't want to blow it up, I just keyed up quickly to check the SWR. I had a feeling it was going to be a new twig :( It's just the one i've got pulls in like mad & the same on the out put. I could get a new whip but it would bring the total height to just over 6ft & I feel thats a bit heigh on top of a T2.
Dose anyone recomend a type of arial. Had a look in maplins at their full size springer & think it would bend over & scratch my roof to bits at 70mph  so will be looking for something about 3ft
Cheers for the help 8)

You can buy a 3' or a 6' springer. 6' is better.

Have you thought of an alternate mount? I use a bull bar mount on the Patrol:

Or a mag mount on the Mav roof:

I will be useing my 6" mag mount on the roof as it sticks like a goodun  I was just worried thae the springer one from maplins would whip about & scratch the roof to bits  (paint work still really good & thats what clinched the deal)

They're flexible but not that flexible. If you're worried get the shorter 3ft one, thats what I've got and transmission distances seem reasonable. I only really use it in convoy when green laning anyway.

He doesn't know it but the other week tubbs came past me on the M11 , first time I've seen the club logo on the tyre case looked good as well  . he has a twig on the lid of his T2 looked like a mag mount type it was hardly bending so I wouldn't worry about that side of things, the main scratches you may encounter are putting on and the removal on the mount, thats what I used to find when I had one. Do they still do a modulater twig I found them to be very good  .

most new mag mounts have a cover over magnit to save paint work if not get a bit of pvc under it

This sort has a rubber mat on the base, but still best to put some cloth between. If your not bothered about the roof then taking the rubber off is supposed to improve the earth plane.
