Ok so bit of a update, phoned my insurance co today & the ins company that insures swmbo car. Neither of them were aware that the car was written off even when I gave reg number. Neither of them were concerned & said if it was mot'd they would insure it.
From what I understand VOSA do the vic (vehicle identity check) to ensure you don't end up with a ringer but they don't check the quality of work for safety this is done by independent engineer.
So I phoned the dealer today to express my interest in the car he was going to phone me back but I won't hold my breath I think someone must have beaten me to it.
