Cars slipping & Sliding all over the place today

Huddersfield & Ainley Top roundabout was a nightmare earlier. Tailback of 30-40 cars because of a van got stuck on little incline. Sod this, so I drove past em all. Love my terrano, see ya suckers

It was a very very heavy hail storm and some lightning, followed by a very small flurry of white stuff. It was very slippy white slush.
I followed a lovely Volvo saloon who was going very slowly down hill, I checked back and selected low range as it gets steep (Brosters Farm Shop if anyone knows it) with a very sharp right hander at the bottom which the Volvo didn't make. He smashed into a wall at quite some speed, he was stood about scratching his head by the time I got there in 1st Low.

yup, I live up that way mate, was a friggin nightmare getting home. Took me 1.5 hours form Leeds road. EVERYWHERE I went was packed. I ended up turning around off Brighouse Road (leading TO Ainly |Top) and going back down through Birkby which was even worse. Cars, vans, busses EVERYWHERE. Only managed to get into 4wd on my road - it was fairly slippy surprisingly.

I remember a few years ago I had to pick my daughter up from Birmingham, It had snowed very hard and the main roads were quite blocked by vehicles, I picked my way around these blockages by back and side roads. On our way out of Brum, we came across a small hill full of stuck cars and vans, so up the verge we went:thumbs
Many got stuck in their cars that day for many hours, we picked our way home...80 odd miles, as I said at the time, in a 4x4, as long as you plan and look ahead, you have less chance of becoming a victim

A couple of years ago we were returning to Staffs from Oxford on the M40 late on one Saturday evening, it was a "Total White Out"

Some cars were in a convoy hugging the central reservation barrier at approx 15-20 mph. Following like sheep.

We held back a short while wondering why, as we had been doing close to 35 mph, with good visibility, but the issue was, we were higher up, and could see over the blowing snow close to the ground.
We moved over to the slow lane and passed them slowly, to avoid making their vision any worse, and then got back to our original cruising speed.
I was surprised that no one followed us. Maybe they didn't know what we could see. We were in 4x4 high all the time though, and we were driving in virgin snow.
You could not see the lanes, no cats eyes, but the M40 was now a VERY wide single lane carriageway...:augie Fantastic:thumb2

That was one of those beautiful drives that goes on your life long list.
We had all the gear, blankets, water, food, spade, ropes, salt, phone etc etc.

Funny that, we were going in the other direction from Brum and had the same thing, only the cars in front were all in convoy in the lane 1/hard shoulder area.
We just cruised along in lane 3, and we did pick up a few other 4x4's in our mini convey.

Maybe then there was a side wind, coming from the east and my side they were in the lee of the barrier, and yourside in the lee of the bank.

I did wave to you... but you didn't wave back.. :lol:lol
Mind you, I was concentrating on my side, rather than looking across to the other carriageway.

The extra height really helps in these conditions.:thumb2
