:)Has anyone got a car cover thingy for a T2 they would like to sell/dispose of etc.SWB would be nice but I suspect as available as second hand coffins.

any particular reason for wanting one? (apart from the obvious ;))

I only ask because theyve been well debated on caravan forums, i know its slightly different, but the vote tends towards waste of time :thumb2

I agree, but only need one for a couple of months whilst the old barn is upgraded then I can put the car inside again.

ahh.........a car thats in storage/clean etc I presume :thumb2

we negotiated a breathable top notch cover for our van when we go it. Its still in the box 2 years on once I realised the down side of the damned thing :D

A bit like that.Have a company vehicle (J reg G Wagon only 35000 miles beleive it or not) that I use during the week etc but some weekends I use the T2 so it stands under cover most of the time .It's also only done 36000 so worth looking after.I'm a fussy old far!

I've heard they can damage the paintwork by trapping moisture.

A few years ago I put a cover over my outboard engine, 2 months later the acrylic paint had blistered and the paint became bubbled.

I would think one of those tent type things they use at parties would be better. Plenty of ventilation, and you can drive your car in and out.
You could be troubled by the wind though.....

If you read the instructions they say on some, do not leave on for extended periods.....

However long that is, 2 months was too long for my outboard.:eek:

Waterless Cleaning or Car Cover ?

I use a car cover on the wife's summer car in our garage - basically to keep the dust off and preserve some sort of nicely waxed appearance.

It was fairly cheap - £45 from CostCo three years ago - it has a soft layer on the inside and is supposed to be water proof - in wet weather you get a damp bloom appearance on the paintwork and there is no wind to cause abrasion issues in my garage.

I would not use it outdoors though as I would fear wind abrasion and the elements would do more harm under the cover than leaving it off.

I have read a lot about the 'waterless cleaning systems' on the market and might consider leaving the cover off and using one of these instead.

Has anyone used waterless cleaning on their vehicle ?

I think you guys are correct about the possibility of paint damage.I like the idea of a gazebo/tent cover though.Could always tie it down really well in a sheltered spot.Food for thought, thanks for the idea.Never heard of a waterless cleaning system though, tell us more please.

The debates re caravans are basically that you need to make sure the paintwork is immaculately clean before dragging the cover over it or youll slowly but surely get loads of little scratches at least.

If your parked up somewhere manky and need the cover for that reason, let if drop once on the ground and youve got nice bits of grit sticking to the inside soft lining sort of self defeating.

So following on from that, if your going to have to clean the thing, why not just wax it up, let it stand and then clean it for a sparkling trip out when you need it :nenau

Also as pointed out by Rustic theres a lot of stories around about damp damage even with the multi hundred quid "breathable" covers. Not experienced it but I have seen the alleged effect on amongst other things caravan decals and stickers.

I can quite understand why a collectable or summer car gets covered up for longer term storage but on a day to day basis cars are designed to get wet dirty and hopefully sun shine on them :thumb2

I have just bought one of the waterless cleaning kits. Its a 1 1/2 litre bottle of milky looking fluid, a trigger spray and 2 microfibre cloths

I saw ads for it in the 4x4 mag that said even in sandy dusty places you could use it without scratching :confused::confused: but it was "HOW MUCH!!!!!!!" expensive.

Cant be selling too well as mine was reduced to £9.99 in Boyes (our local discount store) .

I got it with the caravan in mind I'll update once Ive tried it :thumbs

In the meantime if your wanting to "dust off" a clean car Ive found these to be very good
