I'm looking at a terrano but it's the SE model when really a wanted a SVE - I noted the buttons on the steering wheel were missing and I assume that they are for the stereo? But wondered if I could retro fit them, what else would I be missing with an SE model??

Can anyone advise?

Can't answer the question on the steering wheel, but as far as I know the buttons only allow you to change channels, so not really worth fussing over having or not.

I'm thinking the sve models are leather. The steering wheel controls control everything the radio buttons do. Swap between radio to cd, skip tracks, scan channels and volume. Not sure if you could just swap the steering wheel for a sve steering wheel and plug into the radio.
Can't think of any other differences between sv and sve models.

All depends on year my SE has the steering wheel controls but I have swapped out stereo so now n/a. The main differences are no sunroof, leather and heated seats, CD multiplayer and roof bars on some. As far as I know that is it but happy to be proved wrong.

I can only go by my buttons. Suppose there could be a different setup for different years or models. Since I've owned mine, I've yet to meet another close enough to look around.

Thanks all for your quick and detailed replies, it doesn't have leather which is a bit of a pain but thought I may keep an eye out and buy a leather interior if it comes to it. I've been pretty particular about the spec of terrano I wanted, but it looks like I'll have to either wait some more or compromise on some aspects...

Problem is I'm getting a bit impatient now !!!

My 05 plate se was the same setup as Eloco's. I guess major problem would be wiring loom unless it was there on all the models or perhaps a seperate loom. Unless the fitments are all there I would expect it to be a real pain having buy all the bits and changing them over..

I do know you can get a adapter loom between after market stereos and existing wiring.

My 55 plate SE has a leather steering wheel with the radio controls, as long as the wiring harness is there & the steering wheel has the blanking plate which can be removed then yes they can be retro fitted

I have a spare wheel with controls on if you need one. Not leather and a bit worn along the top but still serviceable. Swapped mine for a leather one.

I have the Terrano II TDI SE 2005.

It has the controls on the steering wheel which my last Terrano 2000 didn't have. I had a 6CD multi changer under the drivers seat but in this newer SE I now only have a single CD unit in the dash but for the life of me I cannot see how the steering wheel controls are useful. How much effort is it to lift your left arm to operate the radio controls on the dash :lol:lol..... they are also quite fiddly. Also you have to remember the buttons are reversed when the wheel is turned and this can get quite confusing so you tend to only use them when the wheel is straight.

I was in a dilemma last week whether I should continue to attempt to turn up the volume on my upside down steering wheel or abandon that quest blaady quickly and swerve back into my lane on the roundabout as I seemed to be veering off :doh ...... I did get back into my lane and a fellow motorist kindly applied educational feedback of my error in the form of a moving hand gesture out of his window.

I have a 2004 SE and I have the steering controls however no CD changer if that helps :nenau

2004 SVE here. I have the steering wheel controls, as well as the CD multi-changer, leather (heated) seats, sunroof, roof bars and tow-bar if that helps at all?

2005 SVE here, all the above plus A/C, head lamp washers, :augie

Wow, as usual, a multitude of detailed and informative replies, the comment regarding lifting my arm to the stereo is my favourite of all.

I think I may employ that advice and bugger the steering wheel buttons, now the leather heated seats may just be the turning point !!!

Sadly the vehicle I had seen sold before I got there, as have another 2, I'm not having much luck in getting to them first !!!

I'll just keep an eye out and I'm sure something will come up sooner or later.
