As said any body on here know about cam belts, ie their physical construction, I need to know if it is likely that they can be made to travel in one direction only, if so how is that accomplished? the reason I ask is I am just fitting one to my Patrol and to get the white line timing marks to work it has to go on with the direction of travel arrows going backwards, my feeling is that the arrows are just an aid to getting the timing marks correct but in my case the crank pulley line does not work at all with the arrows facing the correct way, Rick

normally the name or belt number goes in the direction of rotation rick i dont think it matters but i would fit as rotation arrow says :thumb2

Can you not flip it inside out in itself like you can a band saw blade? I would go with the arrows

I am not convinced they can be made directional, and would prefer to know that it is timed up correctly, I understand that different twists on the strand material can make the belt vere to one side or the other but that most belts will have alternate twists to even this out,and as the crank pulley and cam pulley both have side washers I cannot see direction making any difference, Rick

OK question answered, just been on the Gates site, and yes I was right the arrows are for help with timing only, the belt itself is asymmetrical so can run in either direction, and once tensioned and used should never be re used, Rick
