We have been ask buy another 4x4 Magazine if we can find a few D22 owners that would be willing to help them find the answers to a few questions they have.
Below is a list of the questions they would like to find the answers too from Navara D22 owners.

The questions are divided into two categories, one being about buying
and the other about ownership.

The buying questions are....

* How does the engine and transmission hold up? What are the likely problems?

* Are imported D22 models available? What are these like?

* Is the suspension or load bay likely to suffer damage? What's likely to go wrong and why?

* How do the bodywork and wheels fare? Are they prone to rust and corrosion?

* How much can a person expect to pay? What's the price range?

* How much are parts and maintenance? Should people buy Nissan or pattern parts?

* Are there any other problem areas?

-----------------------------------------------

The ownership questions are....

* What's it like to drive?

* How does it handle and ride?

* Is it noisy?

* What's its interior like?

* What are the best trim levels?

* What are fuel and insurance costs like?

* What's its front and rear seat space like?

* Is there enough room in the load bed,

* What's it like off-road / What modifications are required to improve its capabilities here?

-------------------------------------------------------

What you could do if you wish is to cut and copy the question from this post and paste into your post and just fill in the answers in the line below the question.

They would also be very interested to hear from owners based around the Midlands, who'd be willing to do a brief photo shoot.

Please also reply in this thread if you would be interested in the photo shoot.

Thanks for your time.

The ownership questions are....

* What's it like to drive?
I love it and prefer it to my brand new Mondeo and the Audi A4 I had before that, I seem to not have a care in the world when driving it and have found that I drive really sedately in my Navara.
Its got plenty of power when I need it and the height and visability are fantastic

* How does it handle and ride?
They wallow a bit round the bends but apart from that I find it really comfortable, the only thing that bugs me is I find my right knee resting against the drivers door on long journeys and this tends to become a bit irritating after and hour or so

* Is it noisy?
More noisy than a car Yes but nothing to worry about, not as loud as some other trucks this size

* What's its interior like?
Comfortable a very very useable, I have the Outlaw spec which has the 6 CD changer in the dash and it works perfectly for me and the family

* What are the best trim levels?
Outlaw, but I am fairly biased - LOL

* What are fuel and insurance costs like?
I currently get around 30 to the gallon which is nowhere near the Mondeo or the Audi but the smile on my face driving it makes up for all of that
Insurance is pretty average at £300 per annum Fully Comprehensive

* What's its front and rear seat space like?
Plenty of room for the family but I wouldn't want to spend any considerable time in the back, the children (6 & 7) absolutely love it

* Is there enough room in the load bed,
I have a canopy fitted and we have enough room for all the camping needs of the family for a week including tent, clothes, bedding, cooker, gas, tables, chairs etc.

* What's it like off-road / What modifications are required to improve its capabilities here?
I use mine offroad every opportunity I can, I have been offroading for a year with only 1 modification, a full skidplate, this truck has never let me down even with road tyres on, it goes nearly everywhere.
I have added a fair bit of aftermarket goodies like Lexus rear lights, General Grabber tyres, bug guard, A Bar, LED's, Spotlights etc.

Would definately be up for a photo session and some more words if required, I am in Tamworth :smile:

The ownership questions are....

Is this Still Bobby Cowling from Planet 4x4 Magazine as I had 1 reply then nothing!

* How does the engine and transmission hold up? What are the likely problems?

There is a tendancy for the YD25 engine blowing, but as usual with these things the true percentage of engines failing is unknown.
Transmission hasn't caused me any problems, Nor have I heard of any.

* Are imported D22 models available? What are these like?

Yes there are many Imports in the UK 2.5 TDI, 3 TD and some 3.2 D models there are penty of european 2.5l imports (mainly Ciprican) All green models are and if yours has a chrome rear bumper there is a good chance its an import. There is also a good number of 3l imports which lack an intercooler.

* Is the suspension or load bay likely to suffer damage? What's likely to go wrong and why?

If carrying heavy loads rear leafs may sag as with most vehicles.

* How do the bodywork and wheels fare? Are they prone to rust and corrosion?

Fairly good, Imports are said to not be sealed so well, more a mater of care and maintenence.

* How much can a person expect to pay? What's the price range?

2000 - 12000 depends on age use and milage.

* How much are parts and maintenance? Should people buy Nissan or pattern parts?

Nissan Parts are extorsionate, if you can buy aftermarket.

* Are there any other problem areas?

No really, one recall on the timing chain.

-----------------------------------------------

The ownership questions are....

* What's it like to drive?

Excellent, for apickup but still good.

* How does it handle and ride?

I was suprised how well it cornered, and good acceleration. Ride is a bit stiff.

* Is it noisy?

Yes, but thats what the musics for. I have a sunvisor and big Mud terrains so mine is probably the worst!

* What's its interior like?

Nice, not to fancy but not over basic.

* What are the best trim levels?

Ralley Raid

* What are fuel and insurance costs like?

Depends on driving style, but better than work L200. Insurance has to many variables to be compared.

* What's its front and rear seat space like?

Front is very comfy, rear is cramped.

* Is there enough room in the load bed?

Enough, compared to othe double cabs.

* What's it like off-road / What modifications are required to improve its capabilities here?

Very good at sandard. I have lifted suspension and body to allow bigger tyres and greater clearence. There are lower gearing sets avalible from the states that I am considering. Biggest advantage would be fitting rear Difflock, I think this should be standard and will fit this in the summer.
