I want to put on bigger wheels (33") and do a 3 inch body lift.
But to get this aproved in Norway, i have to calibrate the speedometer on my Terrano 2 96'
Does anyone know if there is a kit for recalibrating this?

Or do i need to change the Pinion in the gearbox?
And does anyone know what size the pinion have to be?
I got 18T Pinion, so would 17T be egnouh or do i need 16T or 15T?
 
Spedo calibration

My mate had a similar problem on his Honda Fireblade.

He fitted a digital one used on pedal cycles and they are calibrated by inputting the wheel circumference.

Another option is to fit a GPS speedometer similar to the one on your satnav.

Interesting question that I have yet to hear a definitive answer to yet and also a member from Norway!!! I might have to be having words with you as I'm planning on doing a trip round the Fjords next year in my Mav but want some info about the country and some ins and outs first
 
terrano speedometer works by a speedo drive cable that comes out the transfer box and enters the back of the speedometer i can't see away of adjusting it, unless it can be adjusted an the gauges
 
The T2 speedo is notoriously inaccurate anyway, take a spin with your standard wheels and compare it against the speed reading on a sat nav, or better still two sat navs, then fit the 33 inch wheels and do the same again. The new wheels might even fix the normal inaccuracy! Have a word with Makeitfit he has had loads or different wheel and tyre combinations on his :thumb2
 
when i put 33's on my old t2 the speedo was the most accurate it had been since owned the truck
 
In engineering terms, calibration can mean having a table of values of displayed reading vs actual reading.

Calibration and adjustment means to make the values read the same or to an agreed tolerance.

So what do the authorities require, and to what accuracy? as some speedometers are out by up to 10%

You might find yours could be better than you think.

Like I said when I had 33s on I'm pretty sure the speedo was rthen cock on. It's a long way out the other way now on 35s :lol
Why not make an insert to put onto the speedo dial if it's out, but I dont think it will be :thumbs
 
Thanks for some good ideas. I'll try to fit 33" and check with the SatNav.
But there is a possibility to adjust the speedo.
That is with changing the Pinion from the gearbox.

Anyone knows a good place to get fender flares for the T2?
Fjellasport hade for the T2, but they where expensive.
 
as said

since 33"s are 10% taller or so than the 29/30" stock tyre

and the speedo is classically out by around the same amount.

did the maths years ago when looking at 33s as a practical
max on a rangey. there the 'overdrive' created by the tyres
would not only correct the speedo but as per landy stuff at
the time the high ratio wasn't 1:1 but about 1.16 to 1 so this
was improved too, handy on an old 4 speed main box truck
cheaper than a 5 speed or overdrive unit.

other ways to correct on terrano but very expensive would
be substitute the diff ratios for a 'deeper' ratio, ie numerically
higher to off set the 'higher gearing of the tyres' and put
the speedo back over reading, but hey wheres the fun in that.
