Very interesting solarman. I think you may be getting a bit deep there though. We all know that all laws except common laws are only enforceable with consent but that is a whole different topic and more worthy in a related forum! For now i will act like everyone else and try to abide by the laws that are currently considered necessary to be able to live within our planned and structured society.

Foutracks are shite off road mate, Terrano is much better
After doing a bit of research on fourtracks it seems everyone who has one dose not drive above 50 to be able to have reasonable mpg which is no good for me really as i like to sit at 70 on major roads.
I really like the swb terranos for a good all-rounder. I will have to see what the outcome is tomorrow for the one i have paid the deposit on. Hopefully everything will turn out ok in the end. I like to try and be optimistic but if the dealer remains unreasonable i will become his worse nightmare! A mention of the law and the threat of talking to trading standards should hopefully get a fair compromise.

Hate to correct you, but a fourtrac is fantasic off road, and will kick a terranos arse.
I agree that fourtracks are great off-roaders. There is a reason why farmers often use them as full-time farm vehicles but there not the best choice for the tarmac.
I will only be off-road to get to get to h.v powerlines then the the truck just becomes a stationary shelter for crib time and to pull the occasional tree over when needed. Im looking for a comfortable drive on-road but have the ability to pull a chipper out a muddy field without having to make the embarrassing call to to a local farmer to rescue me with a tractor.
I have looked into shoguns or troopers but actually prefer the look of a terrano.

Stick with the Terranno, its a good all rounder and a great choice. :thumbs
The only other thing you could go for is a Landrover as they can tow 3.5t but we would have to ban you from the site and hunt you down and hit you with Nettles :lol

Hate to correct you, No they are pretty crap. They are reliable but not fantastic offroad.
Both standard a terrano would win for sure. :thumbs
For starters they have no LSD in the rear.

Well untill we get them both in a field and test them side by side i will agree to dissagree. I have seen them do some really amazing stuff in the field including one that was used for ploughing. Bear in mind the reason the poster wants one.
I have both in a field.I use the fourtrak every day for road use but off road the terrano beats the fourtrak for traction due to lsd

I must admit, the garage owners partner sounds like a right knob head, when you started this posting, you said the car was advertised with a new MOT but was not discussed when you viewed it....if it was advertised with a new MOT, then that's what it must have.

I have agreed to buy the terrano! I will have to pay around £50 pound extra for the m.o.t which has been done today with no faults found. I hope it has been done correctly. I will pick it up weekend after next as i cant make the trip this weekend but had to be quite persuasive to be able to do this as it was agreed to be this weekend. I really don't like dealing with car traders anymore! At least there is a 3 month warranty though. I will book it in with my usual mechanic straight away to have it checked over throughout to make sure its all ok.
When talking to the dealer today i kind of understand why he was being so awkward about the price. I think he soon realised after placing the advert that he had probably under-priced it but couldn't retract from our agreement after i had already paid the deposit. Apparently he has had countless calls about it and had to say every time it was sold and there's me trying to squeeze the best deal for it. I still do not trust car dealers to be honest about anything but it dose sort of explain why we had problems coming to a mutual agreement.
So that's it then. I am looking forward to taking ownership and hopefully a long period of problem free motoring! If such thing exists. Thanks to everyone who has given good advice. I imagine i will become a regular visitor to the forum.

No worries. Its a 2003 3.0 di sve, £2050, 80k, taxed till may, 12 months mot. All the electrics except the sunroof work. It has a large scratch on the bonnet and a few scuffs on the bumpers and slightly worn leather seats, good tyres, un-used spare, near perfect alloys, sweet sounding engine and functional 4 wheel drive.
If there is anyone else who has one i would appreciate any tips on running one such as recommended services intervals, future problems to look out for, recommended modifications for off-road use or anything else really. This will be my first 4x4 to own and am expecting it to be costly to run compared to my current transit connect.
Talking of my connect which i now will be selling soon. I bought it fairly cheap 3 years ago and was a bit tatty on the outside but it has been so reliable. I have driven it nearly every day since i bought it and it has always started and after i tidied up the outside it really is a smart van now and i will be sad to see it go. Might as well add my bit to the discussion.
Ive been in and out of the motor trade for years and there is one thing I can tell you that is a fact ALL MOTOR DEALERS ARE Robbing bxxxxxds no matter if they are selling a wreck or a £100.000 motor. When you go shopping YOU tell them what you want, like 3 months free warranty, twelve months MOT, etc, if they are not prepared to do it take your deposit and walk. I had one were everything was agreed and all was happy until I said you pay for the transferre of my number plate and you have a deal. (£80). He said no I walked. and within two weeks I had found a much better car with the deal I wanted. They play on you really really wanting that car. Hope that speach has helped you. :sly :thumb2
