Hi, dragging the caravan to wales we encountered a very strong burning rubber smell while going up a long 17 degree incline. It vanished when we got to the top. It was not a clutch smell, 2nd gear and 3rd gear used. Any clues? Cheers all :thumb2

caravan tyres are fine, will look into belts, good idea. thanks everyone. no problems on way back i am glad to report :thumb2

I'm sure someone else had this a few weeks back but can't remember if there was an out come to the problem:confused:

belts all seem in good order, no obvious signs of anything astray. lets hope it was a one off. thanks for your input guys. mike

We had a 400 mile round trip towing our van and although there were no rubberish smells, Wifey did mention that the floor on her side was very hot! Both journey's too :-/

Yeah transmission tunnel got warm on mine too, also used to get a warm gear oil smell. Think when the engine has had to work harder it creates more heat that spreads to gearbox. I've never worried about it, in fact yesterday I had a trip of about 80miles each way with a mix of motorway and a roads. Gave car a good blast and got it nice n hot. I had the same warm tunnel and gear oil smell. Again I know what it is and didn't really worry.
