My 1998 Patrol 2.8 is currently in my local garage with 3 of the 6 glow plugs broken in the Head following their attempt to remove them. I am informed the only course of action is to remove the Head. Having searched google there are various reference to broken glow plug removal tools on other makes and models so is it possible a tool is available for my Patrol so avoiding head removal £££££.

Help thanks in advance

not even sure what the plugs look like - can't use an Eazyout or similar?

I heard an easyout should do it. I have a similar set of tools myself from when I had to drill out and remove 3 broken engine mount bolts in my MX6. its tricky, but worked.

the thing is, isnt it dangerous drilling INTO a glow plug whilst its still attached??

well you got to ask yourself what are they gonna do different when the heads off, except maybe try and get a better purchase if theres owt left to grab hold of?

will one of those bolt remover things work ? they are like a drill that bites into the item so you can remove it ?

This cannot be the first time this has happened to a Patrol. My garage is suggesting head removal and sending to the machine shop to remove the plugs from the inside. There must be a tool out there thats been used before to overcome this problem???.

Thats the eazyout Briggie (or a cheaper version of same), just a reverse thread tapper essentially.....the only question is whether there will be something lefT of the plug to get purchase on.
