Whilst parked up at garage some little oik snapped off the electric aerial level with wing. The aerial never used to fully descend, always stayed about 15cm out. After having looked at replacements on e-bay at varying prices including stick type am not sure which type to choose. Is there much hassle changing to a non-electric driven type and would the switch need to be suppressed?

I changed my Mav electric to manual, there is a connector for the electric control on the aerial, I just double bagged that and cable tied it out of the way, so it couldn't take in any water. I didn't disconnect any internal wires.

I found that the electric aerial aluminium tubing at the base had corroded due to water and dissimilar metals, ie electrolytic corrosion. So it was not worth even replacing the inner.

Finding an aerial with the correct length under the wing, was the limiting factor, as very few sellers disclosed this information.

There was an aerial type connector under the wing of the Mav, so you didn't need to route the cable back to the radio, BUT you might have to splice the cable if the connector is in bad shape.

I assume that the Patrol is similar.
Hope it helps,
best regards,

Rustic
