broke it again

yep 4wd gone all wobbly again

as you know all new steering stuff
tracking balancing camber all done
i thought i had it fixed so took paul up to banwen for a giggle... we did .but its not right

im right in thinking if the autos lock into 4wd they cant keep engaging the disengage can they
how about the diff could i have a problem there

it drives fine in 2wd and it will roll in 4wd in a straight line nice . but if i give it gas its like its grabing from side to side and pulling side to side
i cant drive it like this as im 40 percent in 4wd and its not roadworthy . i could die

last chance for it now .... im seriously thinking of burning it.

If you want to eliminat the autos - lock em in, take em off, remove the rings and then they are definitely locked in - no way they can move then.

But no the don't engage and dissenage randomly.

Have you replaced all of the steering bits? 4 TREs, drag link? Whats your steering idler like?

is it possible to do that with the autos. ?

how about the diff would that do anything?

id say its like the diff is repeatedly switching from side to side, every one or two seconds when under strain or drive without welly it rolls smoothly

how about tyre presures i hot 26 front 36 rear

Bloody shame because we had a great time today!!

Tyre pressures don't seem wildly out do they....especially for those big boots, at least not sufficient to cause such a problem....not steering linkage is it?

I dont think the tyre pressure would make much effect. It may make things drag to one side but not wandering about. I've had pressure drop in my big boots and only new when I got out and had a look!
So must be more like the autos not doing their thing properly.
No idea what though. Hope Trex can come up with a plan worthy of a tail on it:sly

oh yeah Paul we had a blast.... i did tell you to mind your head and push yourself back into the seat though.
that's where i took Pete to play when he had his old mav.... not worth taking yours to a place like that. just wreck it....

fun place though. but like i said its up to about the limits for a t2.

back to my problem though..... i recon it was good at the start but it started to play up about half way round. but it was not a full test drive so its definitely not right again

but as you say Colin, if its fine when you welly it in 2wd but not in 4wd then its got to be hubs or front diff hasn't it? Unless the fact that the front wheels are then being driven is putting strain on a steering component?

don't give up mate!!! its a car, not a woman....i.e. easily fixed when bent out of shape!

like Hb said take the brake rings out of the hubs and drive it again!

my bet would be on the huns rather than the diff, in my experience and opinion, once you have an issue with auto hubs bin them and get some manuals, dontt waste money on new rings etc.

my advice go for manual hubs!

what Colin failed to mention was that this offroad location was for nutters only! Boulders the size of Zippys wallet......Seriously his truck did things I wouldn't have thought possible for a Mav so it would not be surprising if a joint had popped like that.....he's probably outside with a torch as we speak!

You know the bit in the footwell that slopes up to the underneath of the glovebox, normally at 45-50 degrees to the floor?....well at one point I was stood up on it! He's a boy alright!

again a bit of logic, if it was a dodgy hub, surely the fact that only 3 out of 4 wheels were bring driven shouldn't cause you to fire off at an angle should it? the vehicle would still drive forwards just as if one wheel were slipping and had no drive.....

tezzers theory about something grabbing or seizing makes a lot more sense.....whether thats hubs or CV joint....

and the ride height on your truck certainly puts a lot more strain on things like the CV joint....
