Hi all can anyone say where to get a brake master cylinder for a Mistral, have checked the numbers on the spare I have here (a Lucas unit) but do not think they are the same as the Mistral (Nissan unit) If anyone can say they are the same I can send mine up to Pete, if not I have had a look round but cannot find it listed, having noted that the Mistral rear shoes are different according to Milners I do not want to take a chance with the master cyl, Rick

i'll have a look at my cylinder tomorrow, mines an auto T2 i cant see them being that different on the mistral its basically the same car

hmmmmmm

That site is pants
It doesn't even list a T2 let alone a Mistral :doh

as I thought, not recognized thanks anyway,,, R1cho does yours have one out pipe at the rear of the cylinder and two at the front? if so can you measure the diameter of the cylinder (adjustable spanner just a snug fit over the external diameter) then measure the jaw gap, unless you have a vernier, Rick

thanks for the hard work looking folks , im absolutely gutted , had a serious cry last night ( yes men do cry ) ,i just cant believe whats happened .

all i did was take it for new front and rear pads /shoes doing , as soon as he fitted the front pads alll hell broke loose with lights and warning buzzers going off , so we didnt get round to fitting the rear shoes .

he topped up the brake fluid and that got rid of the light/buzzers ...... untill you put your foot on the brake pedal ..... then all hell broke loose again

after a hour or so looking for leaks /bleeding brakes etc ...... still had lights/buzzers when touching brake pedal .

then we noticed what looked like a dribble of fluid from the master cylinder ...as soon as you applied the :eek:brakes more fluid :eek:dribbled out .

cant believe something so simple as changing pads has led to this .... WHY ME FFS :(..... fitter is going to try and ring andrew page today to get a new cylinder , or a seal kit ....... i will update later if you havent all fallen asleep with boredom ... or ive shot myself

I do know the petrol and diesel ones are the same so wouldnt think mistral would be different

Hi Pete, sorry to hear the news. For what it's worth better it goes like that than going off for the day with the grand children in the car with you. If you're still not on the road by Saturday let me know and I'll pick you up for the course mate.

Jim

it may be that the Autos just have a bigger servo, and the masters are the same, this is a Mk 1 T2 Manual petrol master cylinder, Rick

cheers rick , the " sticking out bit " on that one isnt like mine , mine is silver ( does that make a difference ? ) .... i think its a bit longer too , with more connections on ..... but i may be wrong , its leaking from the bit where the " sticking out bit " joins the " big black round bit "

would posting a couple of photos of Briggie's master cylinder help to identify it? then we can all go out and compare it to ours :thumb2

ive tried to find some piccies , clive took some i think , but hes deleted them, i cant find any either on here or on my pc

This has been discussed before.
I think the cause of Pete's problem is that maybe the seals have inverted, either by forcing the brake pistons in, but usually the fluid returns to the resevoir.
Or the master cylinder piston has travelled further than normal over the worn area of the bore onto the ridge that forms and wrecking the seals, if this is the case new seals may not cure it.

Regarding the rear brake shoes, there are 2 versions, one is wider than the other. Not sure about the diameter though.

mine looks the same as the pic Rick posted

my big black round thing has nissan stamped on it and looks a bit different to that , but i could be wrong ,

the sticky out bit is the same colour and looks roughly the same , but , and its a big but ..... is the bore the same ?

the fitter rung milners and they reckon they have one ( £159  ) but are they assuming they are the same as the t2 ....... and are they ? , i really cant afford this cylinder , unless i borrow some money , and even then i have to be 100% sure its the right one
