update on the brakes again:nenau:nenau:nenau
after i have received the new master cylinder we replaced it then flushed and replaced the brake fluid.
when we had done it i started the engine up and all was good (single press the light didnt come on ) until i press the brake pedal a couple of times then the light came on

went a 2 mile run brakes good except when you pumped a couple of times then the light came on and the pedal came harder , left a couple seconds and it was fine till we did it again .

we have checked all the vacuum pipes no visable leaks

we are at a total loss as to what to do next

any help much appreciated

thanks dave:nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau

You have either a vacuum leak, or a vacuum pump that is not working that well.

I read on this site somewhere how to refurbish the vac pump by reversing the vanes on the pump.

First check the alternator belt, as the vac pump on the diesels is attached to the rear of the alternator.

If it is working for say 4-5 pumps in quick sucession then this might be the norm.

Maybe we should all try it, how many presses before the light comes on?:nenau

Remember though at tick over, the vac pump is running quite slow.

I pulled the pipe off the vacuum pipe and it nearly sucked my glove off so iam assuming that it working ok. Traced the pipes babe to the servo and there s some vacuum but not as much.
Will try adjusting the rears.
Thanks.

As far as I can see all the vacuum pipes are sucking well. Any ideas as the what to check on the rest brakes. Thanks.
How much are mistral selling for at the moment?

have you bled brakes properly /tightened up bleed nipples properly ? , that was the cause of mine

Yes did all that last night. All bled more than was probably needed. All my nipples are tight too. Lol

the reason i ask is ..even the garage fitting my brakes, got it wrong and solarman 216 ( rick ) came up from the south coast and showed them how to do it properly ....... problem solved lol

i think u are worrying over nothing

do the brakes work when needed.

My brakes are the same

3 yrs and 40k dont lie

no offence taken.

i have had this argument with myself for the last 2 years. I have the mistral and a mitsubishi delica, both which have been on and off road with repairs, i just feel now it's taking too much time up. That coupled with the cost of running it diesel wise is the reason i've decided to try and buy something a bit newer with smaller engine.

it is a fantastic car and if i can't sell it at the right price i will keep it to try and figure out the brakes.

Do you find that the brakes come and go then too?

brakes

not really the brakes are consistently rubbish.

I think because you (i cant anyway) get a decent make of brakes like mintex or EBC
