Couple of days ago i noticed the brake light was on while driving. Stopped the car - started again and no light. yestrday light came on again and i also noticed when i started the engine the brake was very hard to press and couldnt get the auto box lever to engage due to heavy pedal. As we know these autos require slight braking to release the auto lever button. Anyway i restarted her and brakes returned to normal and i could get into drive. Brakes seem to work ok while driving. Same again today ...

Could the brake going solid - then releasing ok while engine is running (not driving) be the servo failing or something else ?

any ideas lads before i take her into garage ..

If you suspect Servo inspect the pipe's going to servo perhaps?

I'm very carefull with brakes and tend to let a garage take a look instead. I would rather know it's been done correctly than harm my family which is how I look at it.

Good Luck
Jim

Hi, this is an interesting thread. I have never felt overly happy with my brakes, although they always pass MoT. However, on occasions i get the brake warning light - and I tow from time to time and always feel brakes are not as strong as I would like. An eg is pumping the brakes results in brake warning light (eg pumping when stationery) - it doesn't feel right but still passes MoT standards - so I'm interested in any posts/thoughts/respones. BTW mine is a '95 T2 LWB 2.7TD

well i checked the brake fluid and it seems ok ... halfway on the level ..

problem i got now is the auto gearbox release switch isnt working 100% ... .i have to hit the brake quite a few times for it to click and allow me to release the auto lever ...

is the brake problem and this switch problem part of the same problem or seperate would anyone say ?

thanks ..

well took my Mistral into garage and they replaced the brake pedal switch ... this cured both the auto gearbox lever release problem and also gave me back my brake lights which had also stopped working ...

Cost was £45 fitted .... quite happy at that price .. :)

dont think they have abs

there is a manual auto release by they the gearstick little red button if it ever gets stuck

think it does have ABS ... when i turn ignition on ABS lights on on dash come on ,,
