Hi folks, have just bought a 2006 2.7 SE swb and the brake light fuse is blowing repeatedly. I can see 2 switches at the brake pedal so I'm not sure which one I should be playing with first.

Also, would anyone know how the loom gets to the rear of the body, ie inside the sill from the left rear tail light pillar, or along the chassis?

Much prefer mechanics to electrics but have a little understanding of them!

Thanks in advance for any solutions offered.

Hi, my first thought is, do you have a tow bar, if you have my first point of call would be to look at the socket and consider a rewire, and then follow the loom up through the nearside rear and into the boot area. This should be where any connections are made, however chafing may have ocurrered on the wire at any point around here. But they could also be done on the back of the brake light cluster, which is higher up, and can be accessed via a plastic panel on each side in the boot area.

Worth looking at these connections anyway, just in case you have a faulty bulb or poor connection.

Has a high level brake light been fitted as an after thought ? if so suspect the cable run on this, as the metal edges behind plastic panels are like knives and require protection if running wires over or past them.

Edit... having read the post again, does the brake light fuse blow without even pressing the pedal, if so ignore my suggestions above... and start looking at the wiring loom from the fuse to the brake pedal switch.

Hope it helps.

best regards,

Rustic

1 switch i think is for the abs and the other for the breake light might be wrong

I was told on my Volvo, one switch is for the Lights, and the second it for the ECU, as part of the emission laws is it has to cut off the fuel as soon as you touch the brakes, so it might be the same on the T2.

The wires physically run from the front to the rear along a plastic trunking, inside the car, under the mat on the passenger side, near the sill. It is pretty well protected, unless someone has been fitting accessories, and screwed something through the floor in that area.

blowing fuses means over current ... have you actually checked the bulb holder for corrosion etc ?

Well, bulb holders all clean and dry, and not currently (scuse the pun) blowing fuses, but your right, high level lamp not working and is a suspect now. Too wet today to get much sorted, we'll see how I get on.

Thanks in the meantime folks, all suggestions welcome. Like I say I don't mind spanners but volts and that I find a dark art ( colour blind, can't always tell whats what) !

obvious one I know but does it do it with the bulbs out the holders
