brake fluid leak.

just finished welding the old bus after cutting out more rust than an old oil tanker and got her passed the mot, i got in the car this morning to take her off the drive to find the brake warning light on, i liffted the handbrake a few times to see if the sensor was stuck and it was still on,i went for a drive and found the brakes really spongy so returned to find a wet patch on the drive near where the rear offside wheel was, i removed the wheel to find the inside of the tire wet with fluid i looked at the back of the drum but no fluid was there i then saw the axle covered in fluid it looks as if its coming from the brake load sensoring valve cant see where as ill need to put the car on ramps, anyone had this problem before and any ideas how to go about curing the problem the resovouir is also nearley empty.

could be the load valve but more likely a brake pipe, you can make your own if you buy a flare tool, cheapy ones are not professional quality, but if you take it steady they will do a satisfactory job, do not forget to get some nuts with the pipe and that there are two types of flare, single and double, single gives a convex finish and double a concave one, make sure you match the existing pipe, Rick

thanks for the quick reply solarman will i have to bleed the whole system and do u think the safest bet would be to just replace the bad one if it is a pipe or the whole lot. many thanks hope i will know more when i can get to see where it is when on ramps.

keep the reservoir topped up and you should not have to bleed the front, my guess is if you get someone to push the pedal with the engine running while you lay under, you will see a jet from a pipe pin hole, if one has gone think I would do all the rears, Rick

I had this on my old 2001 T2, but it happened just as we returned from a caravan holiday so was lucky to get home with brakes. As Rick says, it was the brake pipe and it had a hole in it.

Ah right, locate leaking pipe, if open end spanners will not undo the nuts (do not try too much and round them of completely) cut the pipe with a junior hacksaw and use a six sided socket, once you have all three bits haul it to a local garage and they should be able to knock you one up pretty quick, Rick

Had to replace the brake pipes running along the rear axle. One started leaking when I had to undo it at the brake drum to replace the cylinder; apparently was only held together with undercoating.
I decided to replace the other one as well; local motor factor cut & flared them for me.

I've done this job previously on the Maverick, I took the old length of pipe to my motor factors and they flared the ends and even bent it into roughly the same shape as the old one :thumb2

i would like to thank everyone for their help it seems the brake line from the master cylinder to the brake load sensor valve pon the axle is leaking also one that goes to the back axle is also leaking both have small pinpricks in them. many thanks again to all Kessie.:clap
