Well now the pressure is off, I am thinking to do Boxgrove on Sunday, as long as I can sort the motor tomorrow, starter is full of mud I know and as has been standing for months who knows what else will need attention, and depends also on the availability of my winch girl, but need a break, any one else going? Rick

Well got it sorted of sorts, have three starters all suffered from water/mud ingress, striped them all down to pick the best parts all the armatures needed the coms dressing up, so a trip to the old dog shed that houses my lathe and a quick skim on all three, this pic is what one of them looked like to start

So that sorted the starter but once running found the second alternator was not charging, so pulled it off for a look, and as you can see the brushes have had it

This heap of dried mud fell out when I removed the bash plate, brakes are binding but work of sorts, some muddy water will soon sort them out and as a temporary measure have linked all three batteries together to be charged from the normal alternator, it will restrict my winch ability a bit but should be OK, Rick

Hopefully watch this space for some good muddy pics tomorrow evening, Rick

Mud lots of it

If it is about I will find it, ten mins after running around found a Landi stuck in a hole, but road tyres and no winch no dif locks etc, 5 mins winch and he was out, so continued looking for mud the normal places were dry but did find one deep muddy puddle but winched out of that no problem, it was then I realised I had forgotten my camera, so only able to take pics with my phone, much more difficult as in the sun cannot see the screen also they need resizing before uploading to here, any way did it, the next hole we found was this one, tried rear winch but stuck hard an dyneema broke, so time for a front pull but knowing it will be a hard pull used a block and back to the 2nd cable point I have ready ( cannot see it in the pic as under water) but = 26000 lb pull

as did this guy at 3.45, site closes at 4, would you believe he was low on fuel so at the front up angle he could not run and his battery was flat, so I pulled him out of that hole dead, block on his recovery point back to a tree on my nearside, I took the load and spun 3 holes in the dirt, to get a grip (only three as I have done another front shaft) it was a hard pull, could of done with another block but did not have the cable length, anyway he came out, this is as he came over the brow, so at the end of the day a very good day out, thoroughly enjoyed it but got lots of jobs to do before the next outing, Rick

looks great fun , but rather you than me mate , I couldn't do that

Good job Rick, all work and no play all that :D
I still can't get over how much mud I've pulled put of the Black Pearl over the last year .
Is it the lokka that's taking out the half shafts ?

It was the Maf amp breaking em if I remember rightly, lots of power wheels in air, when wheels make contact to floor - snap!

Looks like a pretty intense course :naughty

To be honest I think I did the shaft last time out many months ago and forgot about it, as it is broke at the diff end it is still retained by the boot so did not notice when doing the starter and alternator, but would not have had enough time to change it anyway, first climb we did on Sunday I felt it was not going up as well as it should but put it down to the dumper tyres, yes Alex is correct that is how they get broke, but the Lokka keeps the other side driving, Rick
