Had a really good day yesterday (Sunday) a Slindon's sister pay and play site Boxgrove about 3 miles from Slindon, I think with the recent rain it was good, maybe after a dry spell it may dry out a little too much, however in spite of many negative comments from other people at Slindon I found it a good and varied site, below is a sample pic on the top of a grade, stopped here to check water depth before proceeding, Rick

And the water proved not too deep so proceeded through it and up the track the other side, I have to say with current tyres and fixed front diff this motor performs very well indeed, so much so that we (that is Swifty and I) recovered a Defender (we only been on site 20 minutes) and two other rovers that were trying to help each other out but getting no where, and after we did that just drove through where they had been stuck like it was good road, and just to rub it in we turned round and did it again, Rick

I have a video of a good climb if anyone would like to see it but it is a bit of a pain for me to upload as I am on a mobile dongle, but will do it if requested, yes we had a great day, specially when I said to Swifty at 3.30 (site closes at 4) "what we do not want now is to get stuck" 5 minutes later we went down a steep slope into water similar to the pic but this time up to the bonnet and engine died, (will have to better waterproof electrics) so I sent Swifty onto the bonnet to try and reach the winch cable, which he did and was then able to walk round the water to a large tree, ten minutes of hard winching to the left and we were out, even had the engine not died I could not have driven out as front of motor was hard on the bottom, great fun, Rick

gotta get me an old swb mot fail

I paid £110 for the T2 with clutch gone, did the clutch added a winch and great fun since, Rick

Another snip, we winched this one out and the one in front of it, then drove right through the same place, and just to prove a point turned round and did it again, welded front diff with auto hubs is GOOD, just want permanent low box now with 2 and 4 selection, as many places 2 wheel is good but high ratio is too high, Rick

means you dont have to click on the link , the video is in the thread :thumb2

OK but does that mean less internet usage for the likes of me of me on a dongle or is the download memory the same, if so just what is the advantage of having it "in the thread", sorry Pete just do not understand all this type of stuff, you know what sort of stuff I understand, Rick

What is the effect on steering of the welded front diff ?

Ah is this some new health n safety nanny state license restriction then :doh
Just get a lokka for yours job done :naughty
I used to drive 5 ton trailers around the farms at 13 :)

nice to see swifty again mate , send my regards mate please :thumb2

What is the effect on steering of the welded front diff ?

None at all, in 2 wheel the auto lockers are free, and in 4 wheel the traction is such that it has little effect and as long as you are not in a rut can still steer pretty much as good as with a free diff but now you can keep going, absolutely ace, Rick
