Hi all

Since buying my 1996 2.7td Mistral (89000 miles) I have had an annoying squeek that sounds like a rubber drive belt.

I have since changed all the belts, bearings and serviced the FW hubs (auto)

It has been suggested that the compressed rubber joint between the bottom crank pulleys is giving way and slipping, causing the squeek.

Has anybody else heard of this happening? :nenau

If so has anyone got a 3 belt bottom crank pulley for sale? (without the squeek):thumbs:thumbs

thank you

squeek

only under the load of driving.

also in neutral when freewheeling.

the truck drives and brakes in a dead straight line at all speeds.

the squeek starts after a couple on minutes, as if when "it" has warmed up.

all is possible and it sounds like you have eliminated the belts from your enquiry:doh
what else could be doing this?

Does it only do it in a straight line or when turning or both

Squeeky Pulley

hi there. The lower crankshaft 3 belt pulley is also a (TVD) unit (Torsional Vibration Damper). It's weight is totally disproportionate to its size. I may have one at work from a spare motor I will have a look but no promises.

squeek

Hi guys only when it is moving. does not seem to be speed dependent.

SWMBO said "what did you touch yesterday as that noise has stopped"

All I did was put nail varnish across the pulley surfaces so that it can be seen if it has moved and reattached the radiator cowling after it was moved to mark the pulley.

The above it not confirmed but will update tomorrow

One suggestion would be to take the belts off one by one and start the motor up and see if the noise stops when any particular belt is off.

Might be a bearing in the alternator, air con compressor, power steering.bottom pulley.

If all the belts are off the bottom pulley should be turning and nothing else and squeaking them you have your answer.

squeek

Thanks Rossco

Having a go the weekend, will post the vsolution if found
