Recently Ive seen a bit about boost guages but not really sure what use they are. Im not getting at anyone that has fitted them just trying to understand why have them. Obviously I know what theyre measuring just want to understand why youd want to know.

For me, it was so I could see what was going on, I have a leak in my intercooler, which I have put a temp fix in place with liquid metal, but I don't expect it to hold out. I am waiting on a replacement one!!! :nenau

As the car is getting older and things start to fail, eg., one of the pipes that connect the IC to the inlet manifold split a while back, so again rather than wondering what was wrong with the car, and suspecting the worst, the gauge would have shown the drop in pressure and given me an earlier clue. I have always had issues around the turbo and IC on my car, since I got it, so it's nice to actually feel I have some idea of what it is up to now.

I was interested in knowing what my max boost was & at what RPM the turbo came into play, i've also used the gauge to try & drive keeping off boost or use as little as poss for a bit of eco friendliness:lol or in the case of my last T2 trying to keep boost pressure as high as I could through the gear changes when driving very hard so to reduce any turbo lag. Got to know my turbo quite well & now know roughly what pressure it puts out at a set speed, gear etc
Oh what the hell i'm a boy racer & it's the only needle on my dash that I see move quickly these days as the speedo & rev counter don't:lol:lol:lol

In all fairness did fancy a Focus RS (green) but couldn't fit our camping gear in one & it't wouldn't tow a caravan so got another T2 that will get through the flood water here & off road:thumbs if this T2 hadn't of come along would have had a tweaked Mondeo ST by now:thumbs told you I'm an old boy racer:doh

I fitted mine to determine how much I could tweek boost without blowing the turbo up.
Its now running at 16\17 psi as opposed to the factory setting of 10.5 psi.
I needed some extra power with running 33s

here we go again on boost, does anyone actually now the correct boost for these? Because i for one would like to know for sure

Glen

Pretty sure I read somewhere that it was 14psi and that was external of the forum.

I'd love to fit one in on my pillar near the windscreen but as far as I'm aware there aren't any that you can just buy off the shelf :(

What do you mean, do you mean off the shelf pillar trim?

Did you see my install, I fitted it to the pillar and it's worked well. The single gauge pod would be even easier.

Gimme Pics and Links :clap :D :thumb2

Got to say Clive your guages did look very neat on the pillar and the voltmeter looked cool in that blue with red needle.

To be honest I've personally no interest in the boost guage but did want to know what people used them for. Like the idea of keeping boost low so it uses less diesel tho. Of course another cute lookibg guage probably doesnt go a miss too:lol:lol

I have managed to pick up a cheap vacuum gauge from Ebay, which is the same Blue/Red as the voltmeter... When it arrives, I am going to have a go at swapping bits over, to see if I can turn it into a matching boost gauge... wish me luck, as being different makes, I know it's going to take a bit of work, assuming it is possible.

You interested in making me one as well on commision?

Will see how it goes first, before commiting, the Boost gauge was £32 and I picked the donor vacuum gauge up for £8, but it should be £45, so not a cheap mod to do with out hitting lucky.

I think I'm going to just get one of these;

But the bit I'm struggling with now is which boost gauge I need, I presume ours are the mechanical ones that need the vacuum tubing as I've seen in some adverts, could you link me to one?

Any mechanical one will work Banshee but the vacuum on the gauge won't work but the boost will work fine. With the mechanical ones it's just a case of T'ing at the turbo (if you want your readings from here) then run the vac pipe into the cabin via either the grommet for the aircon drain pipe on the N/S or run the pipe along the bulkhead under the brake pipes & in via one of the 3 grommets on the O/S. Most gauges just have 2 wires to sort out for the light:thumbs

Arghh you people have got me wanting another guage to look at now. I really need to get a life
