So, I had an oil and filter change done a few months ago by a Spanish auto shop, since then, after the initial cloud of black smoke on start up I get a cloud of blue smoke.
On checking the receipt for the oil change I found they have put in synthetic oil - anyone know whether the blue smoke could be attributed to the synthetic oil?
Also, what other reasons are there for synthetic oil being unsuitable for a '94 T2 (pre-intercooler)
Thanks guys

hmm..i could be wrong, but id say its a bit of a coincedence. Any change of oil type can make all sorts of oddness occur where smoke is concerned. Might be worth flushign it, and putting some fresh, decent oil in (plus new filter) and see if that cures it, otherwise youre looking at other issues, but i reckon its the oil.:thumbs

Theres a thread on oil types i would drain the synthetic oil asap and put either mineral or semi synthetic

what grade of oil did they use:nenau

Bin that plastic muck and refill with 15/40 mineral oil simples :D
If it had a new filter at the same time I'd leave the filter in,it only holds a little oil in the big scheme of things :thumbs

It's well documented on & elsewere that full synth (5w/30 or 40) is too thin for the 2.7. 10w/40 or pref 15w/40 is much more suitable. With the 3L full synth 5w/30 is the recommended, according to Halfords, but I prefer 5w/40 fs & have had no probs at all.
