Blown speakers

After having a new CD player fitted in. my offside door speakers sound like the've blown.I wondered if anyone has fitted new speakers in and if its an easy job.

Never done that job on my T2 but I've done it other cars. Main thing is take your time and if something is stuck have a look at why it is stuck before trying to force it. Lever the clips that hold the card rather than levering or pulling on the card.

Hi Paly :smile: Replacing your front speakers is an easy job to do. The fact that the factory ones have gone is quiet common as after market head units most often push out alot more power & as i've found over the years the standard speakers will last about 6 months max before the voice coils in the speakers melt :roll:
You have a few options when it comes to replacing them. 1st off you can fit factory size speaker IIRC the front are 7"x5" & the rear on a SWB are 6"x4" JBL make them in this size & TBH they are fantastic speakers. 2nd off you can fit 6"-6.5" if you make up a spacer/mounting ring or you maybe even be able to buy one now :roll: This is the size i'm running in my front doors & have found the sound & staging much better :smile: The 3rd option is you can go bigger but you'll have to start trimming the metal work :wink:

You will be able to get them from most car audio stores, Halfords & ebay :roll: Most of the big names in car audio make speakers which will fit, but I do like the JBL ones as i've found I get a great sound from them & 1 set I have in my T2 are now 10 years old & are as good as the day I 1st got them

Slight audible hints are emerging that I could do with upgrading my speakers.

I take it that the little grill covering the speaker doesn't prise open.

I don't know what type of speakers are already there, if it's the original or upgraded. It has a separate tweeter higher up on the door trim. Does that mean there is a crossover somewhere which splits the freq? Then it wouldn't be a smart idea just to replace the speakers, using the current wiring?

I don't mind spending a bit more money on speakers. You can have the odd cheap beer, even a cheap woman, but a cheap speaker is hard to take.

There are not many in this size available round where I live.
Only Kenwood and JBL, mostly available.

Sweety has already stated that the 8627 are alright.

I was more asking a question than anything else

As it turned out, most of the JBL's that I listed were not available.

Basically I was trying to find stock at the prices before the IsKr fell in value last Nov. I ended up buying Alpine at the old prices.

I purchased 2 sets of speakers and an amp.
Amp.
Amplifier MRP-F300

Rear speakers 4x6.

The speakers are old stock and have been replaced by models at twice the price, but can't be twice the value can they?

Total cost of £280 which is about £30 more than one UK store listed price.

I have a Boss woofer from another car.
Boss Audio BASS600 8-Inch Low Profile Amplified Subwoofer
I don't yet know where to hide it, it doesn't appear to fit snug under the passenger seat. The plastic air outlet and some seat heat harness stops me from shoving it all the way under.
Maybe when I work it out I will post a new thread on it.
After all, it's supposed to be entertainment.

Hi DeeTees nice bit of kit you've bought :wink: If you want to better the sound staging of the front speakers a spacer ring made from MDF & cut at an angle (thicker at the bottom & thiner at the top)so the speakers face upwards like the factory ones will be easy to make :wink: TBH the best place for the sub will be in the boot :smile:

The woofer in the boot? that would drive my dog manic :twisted:

It has to be under the front passenger seat. The impediment is just the hard plastic rectangular hose for directing the heated air to the back seat passengers. They are not a priority. A clean cut, block it off and I'm sure the throbbing bass will provide plenty of entertainment for the fs passenger. If the sound is too muffled then I'll consider the boot.
