My blower has only been working on number 4 setting for some time now and with the onset of winter I though it was time to have a look to see what was wrong, so Sunday afternoon set about removing the speed controller resistor card, once removed it was evident that the circuit on the card had burnt through at a point on the feed side that looked to be intentionally wasted away to burn out in any overload situation.
I cleaned away the protective coating each side of the break in the circuit with some fine emery paper and place a small strip of solder across the break and soldered each end to the good circuit.
Refitted the control card in the bottom of the blower housing and switch on, all 4 speeds working. Job done and all in 15 mins.
I have used a strip of solder to repair the coil type resistor pack feed thread on other vehicles before and it has not only worked ok but will melt when there is an overload, as the original do, so I presume (hope) this will be so for the latest repair and it wont melt prematurely, but time will tell, all ok so far its been on for a good hour today on the way to work and back.
