The blower motor has a high pitch whine which gets more intense with speed.

When I really need it, I turn it on and wear ear plugs.
I replaced it with a spare one I have. Before installing the spare motor, I tested it and it operated quietly, however, as soon as it was installed it squealed just like the original.
I then connected the original to the wire harness and it also operated quietly.

Any ideas why the motor only squeals when in situ?

Have you tried removing pollen filter so there is free flowing air? Other than that it could be the heaterbox is twisting the case of the blower motor causing it to squeal. If that is the case could you slacken the mounting screws or something along those lines.

My old 05 plate used to squeal going around corners. Reckon bearings were shot because it had had the water leak from below scuttle panel causing water to run through the heater box for goodness only knows how long. So unless both your fan motors had suffered the same leak I doubt it’s the motor bearings.

Good luck

I would suspect a bit of debris has got in and fouling the blower, given two blowers run OK out but both squeal when in, Rick

Sorry to be so tardy with feedback, it's just procrastination sinking its claws in.
As was mentioned, the fan blew normal when unfastened but squealed like a banshee when screwed in place.
I went for the simplest option first, I slackened the 3 screws as Jim suggested and eased out the blower, mm by mm until the squealing stopped. I was well pleased with that.
Called it a wrap and thar she blows ever since, purring away contentedly.

I like cheap fixes:thumbs

Very satisfying isn’t it when you have something like that driving you nuts and then a little work and it’s sorted. Well done you.

What he said!!!! I've had this too in Grandads, only did it going around corners

hi mates!
i reply to this old thread because i've the same problem: on left turns (and lately also going straight) the blower squeakes like a monkey.

i guess it sould be the bearings, what do you think?

and most important: i don't have to remove the whole cockpit to reach the blower right?! it is accessible behind the glove box... right!?

and more.. i guess most of you live in places colder than italy: have you solved the annoying problem of cold air from central nozzles?
hot air seems to flow through all nozzles except the centrals, and it seems to be so for all terrano owners i've talked with.
