I was driving back home the other night in my works van (Vauxhall Vivaro)I was on the M4 sat in lane 1, when a deer suddenly shot out from the hard shoulder into lane 1, I swerved onto the hard shoulder and the bloody thing did a U turn about 20 ft away, back towards the hard shoulder, I was doing about 60 and hit it full on.
When I stopped to see what damage there was, It didn't look to bad, just a cracked front bumper, so I carried on home.
The next day I noticed water under the front and when I checked, the radiator had been smashed back and was badly bent, there was water leaking and part of the front cross member was bent back.
Van is now away for repairs and I have a spare.

I have noticed a big increase with deer and more and more are coming into contact with vehicles, just lucky it wasn't to large, or it may have come over the top of the bonnet and into the screen.

someone I know got a full respray on his d90 recently, First weekend out on the way back from a greenlaning trip hit a pheasant.

i dont know if theres more deer or just that they are getting less scared of roads and rail etc, they tend to go with a bump when they hit the front, horrible.

a huge buck jumped over the guardrail and landed on my uncles metro last year. stopped him dead, pushed the engine into the floor about 3"deep and squashed everything forward of the A pillar. then it stood up and wandered off. deer 1-metro 0.

road kill. if you kill it can you have it?
love the idea of a deer on my bonnet:lol

I have had a few dears on my bonnet in the past. And yes i was in the woods at the time.

You must be tall, to be able to do some old dears on the bonnet of your truck or did you stand on a crate ;)
Maybe it was another car.

I'll get my coat :augie:augie

There's a country road I sometimes drive to work and because I work shifts I've had a couple of deers jump out in front of me. It's amazing how they just appear from nowhere. Anyway I never really get up to the speed limit because of them.

I've seen the amount of damage they do when our trains from work hit them so I'm sure they must make a mess of road vehicles.

Totally agree, I have noticed more around here lately and never speed along the lanes, as you say, they just appear from nowhere.

I did witness a smash between a large Roe deer and a car, the deer was still alive, but had to be shot, the car was a total write off and the driver had quite a few cuts to his face, as the beast had gone through his screen.
