R3M

Hi all,

Not been on here for a while, personal stuff, not good. But in all the things that have happened I have killed my R3M.

I need some help, In rushing one of my kiddies to hospital I really did screw over my terrano for 7 mile, I mean power switch on, on the auto box and pretty much keeping it on the red line.

All I say is I wish I still had the skyline which I would have had him to hospital in 4 mins (proved in the past) but the 4X4 did me proud.

I have some issues with the water pump p155ing coolent out now, is this a common problem? / how easy is it to replace / how easy are these to get hold of for a jap import?

I have been told one of the front axels has expired, again does anyone know of avaliability / prices and a front wheel bearing.

Lets just say for 1/4 mile out of the 7 this car got drilled down one of the bumpiest fields ever made which is what probably destroyed it.

Again all this post is for, is information on avaliability of parts and an idiots guide to fitting them, now I really can't afford to get a garage to do it for me.

Is there anyone out there that can help?

Thanks all

Bryn

water [ump is the same as a t2 get that from milners or ebay
bout 60 quid

running gear depends on your model but all can be found
if yours is before 96 you have the early r3m which has the same running gear as the t2
however if yours is later 96-98 its going to cost as parts are limited and lots of homework to find ... but still get able

I'm no expert but my Dad and I replaced the water pump in my T2. My Dad is a retired mechanic but never worked on 4x4's before and has not done much mechanics in over 10 years. It was a straight forward enough job if you have some experience of tinkering with motors. Seems water pumps leaking/going is not unusual in the Terrano. I paid about Euro 160 for a new pump but some of the other replies to your post show they can be got much cheaper. You will probably be as well to change the belts as well while you are at it unless they are fairly new. They are not too costly though. You will need a tube of liquid gasket for the job as well but that's not too expensive either. Don't know anything about the axels.

Thank you Tony and Thomas,

My lad, he is doing well now. Still in and out of here myself.

All I can say is ccredit to the NHS, and thank fook I work for them. Still had to pay for a side ward tho. Oh well pretty much 6 weeks with about 2-3 hours sleep per day I had the nurses caring for me at the end as well.

Back to the car, does anyone out there know where I can pick up a water pump (cheap) and a thermostat along with an idiots guide on how to fit them??

Thanks to everyone out there.

Good news to hear child is doing well. Look after yourself as well. I must say there seems to be some very decent skins on this web-site. Fair play to ye lads. In regards to instructions on replacing water pump and thermostat there is diagrams and instructions in the manual for the R 20 and ZD model in section LC. I presume much the same procudure will apply for your model. Zippy is the man with the link to the manual. If he doesn't turn up here shortly I might be able to figure out how to get the section from the manual on to you (as I have a copy on computer).
