Black tint

Would like to tint the rear fixed sidewindows and the tailgate window on the MAV, so is it easy to do with the stuff you buy on a roll???? whats the best type to go for and any tips appreciated, oh and any links to sellers that do good stuff on the bay also appreciated. Pros and cons also and approximate cost for a product that does a decent job as Ive seen a few with bubbles and it looks shi£e,,,,As zippy always says as well "pics would be good"LOL :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs in advance

it easy to get it on without bubbles. you need something to spray water on the glass the finer the spray the better (like hairdresser) then you need a flexi rubber/squegy type thing ind start in the middle and work to the outside. i used to put the big decals on nestle vending machines this way. not quite the same but same method

Try a company called Dorotape, it's the company that signmakers use for their vinyl, they do a range of window film. I don't know if they supply the public direct.
When I fitted it to my Renault, I had a problem with the concave curve on the rear window.

make up a spray bottle with a good mix of washing up liquid and water probably a ratio of 60 w/up liquid to 40 water

I've fitted loads of vinyl graphics over the years and the solution I use if I need to apply wet is 500ml of water to one drip of washing liquid, any more and it becomes too slick to dry in a reasonable time.

Never done windows though so not 100% if you would want any more soap in the solution.

When I fitted it to my Renault, I had a problem with the concave curve on the rear window.

Cut the film slightly bigger than you need it. (make up some card templates) you dont want to get it wrong the tint film is not cheap

make up a spray bottle with a good mix of washing up liquid and water probably a ratio of 60 w/up liquid to 40 water. Clean the windows with methylated spirit.
You need to either remove the window or at least the door trim to allow you to get the tint film below the level of the door trim.
Spray the water mix onto the glass and squeegee the film onto it. Give the film a good go with a hair dryer, this will cause it to shrink if it is going to, it is not to dry the water out from behind the film.
Use a (very) soft cloth balled to a hard flat pad to push the water and air bubbles out to the edge of the film. Trim the film and leave the film alone. it will continue to dry out.
There is a special edge seal / glue that Dorotape do to stop the film fraying at the edges. (super glue might do the same if applied carefully)

I Assume you mean the relevant wave length of light effect you require is Abscence of light!! So as not to offend N's W's or C's.

I did the windows on my Ford Crapi back in the mid 90's... Piece of cake plenty of water and only a bit of Fairy!! It will go opaque to start as the adhesive is activated then dry clear.

The Sh!t3 bubbly finish you see on mondeos and escorts is when it has just been stuck on without asking or reading the instructions!!!

Clean the windows with methylated spirit this will not leave any residue on the glass.
either remove the glass or at least the door trim so you can get the film below the level of the door trim so it doesn't catch as you open the window.

Make a template of the window and cut the film slightly bigger than you need it - you can always cut a bit off bit it not so easy to add a bit.

Spray the water mix onto the glass and place the film onto it, the film will slide around at this point to position it. squeegee the water out untill you get the film sticking to the window.

Using a (very) soft cloth balled up into a fairly hard pad, use this to squeegee as much of the water out as you can and push any air bubbles out of the side of the film.
Using a warm hairdryer play it over the film, not to dry it but to give it a chance to shrink. then LEAVE it alone to dry, this will take a few days.

Get some decent quality thick film to start with. Less likely to tear.

You'll need a hair drier or heat gun also.

Clean the inside of the glass first with eg Mr Muscle, and then using a blade make sure there is nothing stuck to it.

Wet the OUTSIDE of the glass with the water+1drop fairy liquid solution in a spray gun. Get the film and apply it to the outside of the glass inner face down. So that the peel off layer is facing you and not against the glass.

Cut to approx shape with a scapel blade. Using the hot air gun, shrink the film to fit the convex shape of the glass. This part is most important. Once you have it shrunk, then accurately cut the film to size, corners etc. If you are not happy, shrink it some more. It must sit nice on the glass.

When you are sure it fits nice, wet the inside of the glass, and peel off some of the cover layer. Apply to glass using the squeezie and sliding it around on the water to fit. Using the squeezie and hot air gun, work the water out to the edges leaving no bubbles.

Sounds simple, but isnt to start with- get plenty of film !!! Also plenty of How-to videos on youtube.

I also have another roll, BLUE roll length 5ft X approx 80 inches but could be 120 inches
