Further to some info that has just come to my attention from Alex about some U/S track rod kits from Eplay, does anyone think it would be a good idea to pool info on this site about useless suppliers/products that are unsuitable or incorrect.

We've all had problems in the past with parts that don't fit, or are unsuitable, Alex says that a number of people on FaceAche have bought these kits.

Is this a feasible idea?

Known Parts Issues

Terrano

Centre Drag Link / Tie Rod Ends Kit
Seller - eBay (ziggy-a2z)
Listed as FOR NISSAN TERRANO MAVERICK CENTER DRAG LINK TRACK ROD TIE ROD END ASSMEBLY
Wrong items in kit that wont fit to the car

Idler Arm
Seller - Milner Off Road
Problems sometimes with alignment of bolt holes that do not align to the chassis, additional hole can be drilled however Milner will happily replace and refund

Boshi Fuel Filters
Seller - Milner Off Road
Fuel filters of this brand have been reported to not seal correctly causing an ingress of air into the fuel system and thus poor performance

Toyo Propshaft UJ Kit
Seller - Milner Off Road
Toyo UJ's listed on the website are shown to have grease nipples fitted, although not mentioned in the advert, I have spoken to Milners regarding this and they have advised that as a cost cutting exercise, Toyo no longer fits grease nipples to the UJ's and they cannot find an alternative brand that does (July 2015)

Patrol

2.8l TD Patrol Glow Plugs
Seller - Milner Off Road
Plugs 4, 5 & 6 are incorrect plugs, originals have 2 connections as are duel voltage

I agree that it will be useful however will it leave posters/site owners wide open to legal action?

Fine idea to keep people away from rogue traders.

I was thinking along the lines of just saying that "x-y-z part does not fit" rather than slagging off suppliers.

There's a lot of "suppliers" that are only middle men. Don't know what the part is or where it goes. They just go to China, Taiwan etc and buy spares from manufacturers. Manufacturer tells them they have 10 different wishbones for 10 different vehicles and they know no different.

in my experience this does not work I purchase lots of catering parts and the shysters either do not accept feedback or just ignore it anyway, one firm wants £30 for an item another £100, but they are all just agents and the way they arrange delivery, you cannot trace the original supplier, problem is where else do you go especially when you need a part urgently, I had three commercial dishwasher motors incorrectly supplied all returned for full refund but why could they not get it right? fitted a second hand one in the end, Rick

I wasn't thinking about giving feedback to suppliers, more like just a list of parts and their source which aren't suitable for what they are described for.

Just a reference list for this forum.

Alex informed me of an EBay track rod set which don't work. Fortunately I'd already sourced from Milners, but it could have been a costly mistake.

A list of such parts could be useful.

Just a thought to throw out there.

:)

well again in my experience for vehicle parts I use my local supplier, not only are most things next day but I have a face to go back to if I have problems agreed many parts are a little dearer but I value face to face contact and lets face it if we do not use them we will lose them, Rick

Amen to that. We only have the national companies left round here. GSF, Europe etc.

I wholeheartedly agree with that!! :clap

Not long ago I ordered a complete filter change kit and sump washer from Milners, all came no problem.Went to do the job and found washer for sump was an incorrect size fibre washer and the sump bolt supplied had the wrong thread so refitted old ones. The only other problem that I have had from Milners stuff was the glowplugs for my 2.8TD Troll, they sent plugs 1,2,and 3 correct but 4,5 and 6 only had one connection whereas the car has dual voltage on the latter.I queried it with them and they were most helpful but their system only has single voltage ones as the specified part so may have to modify the preheat circuit. This isn't a bitch about Milners as I have had good service from them,it's just to say sometimes they are supplied incorrect stuff and forward it on.

This is the kind of useful information I was thinking about. Not an issue with a supplier. Just a problem that's arisen through a supply chain.

Could even be that manufacturer is working off incorrect specifications that were obtained from a dealer that have been changed later.

We already have most of the info, but it is buried in the myriad of threads throughout this forum.

I was just thinking it may be helpful if it was all collected in one location on this site.

I think the way to deal with it and make it useful is to think about what you would like someone to say about you or your business.
Constructive critisism good.
Bitching less good.
I had a guy all over my social media when I supplied roller shutters, he was 100% wrong in his complaint but insisted on demanding that people didn't buy from me. I have no idea how damaging it was. People are very unlikely to give praise when due and are very quick to complain, even when they are at fault themselves.

we have a " willows good garage " thread or summat like that I think :nenau

Fire them up and I'll edit the first thread with everything that's posted below;

I'll list a few I've had from Milners already in my time dealing with them

Idler Arm Hole Locations - Don't always line up and an extra hole has to be drilled
Boshi Fuel Filters - not sealing correctly
Propshaft UJ's - no grease nipples on the Toyo ones when delivered even though picture shows them

This is a difficult call, over the years people complained about the replacement steering idler having holes drilled in the wrong place, I hope this was fed back to the supplier, then they can get the manufacturer to modify their drawing, but what has probably happened is the idler from another car is "close enough" for them to supply that rather than have two stock items.

There is also an issue of experience or competance of those making a complaint, I feel I am well qualified to complain about poor quality relays, switches, cables, fuse holders or anything electrical or electronic, including batteries.
I would not be competent say, claiming that steel would not weld correctly, when in fact it was the person welding or the equipment or settings.

I had a bad exhaust fitted to my Mav, it made a whistling noise, yet an alternative manufactured downpipe was ok. Do I blame the fitter? or the pipe manufacturer, maybe that type was fine with 95% of Mavs.
I think a thread keeping these issues together as facts, and any outcomes rather than judgements or opinions about the supplier, is a good idea, slagging off a supplier might just get up and bite you, but stating a situation where only provable facts are posted should be ok, in my opinion.
eg bought item, item was wrong... got a full refund is fine.
But bought item, item was wrong, seller wouldn't give a refund, then seller is a scammer might well be appropriate, but if it was 6 months between purchase and return, it is not unreasonable for the seller not to give a refund.
So I guess lots of things to consider before even thinking about black listing a product or a supplier, or even a forum member, as I have seen incorrect information on here.
Rustic

To be honest Rustic, the only reason I put that as a title was to get people's attention.

Now it has worked we can discuss this further.

I'm not suggesting a "black list" for suppliers, more along the lines of (using Alex's experience):

Ebay track rod set. Not suitable. Can't be adapted.
Milners 2.8 patrol injectors. Single wire only. Wiring will need altering.
Etc.

Just a reference list, and some indication of whether the problem can be overcome, and how.

All the information is already here in the forum.

Just needs collating into one sheet.
