a couple of question and statments my local garages normal diesel 107.9 and bio with 12% mix 106.9 that can't be right i have used it before but i am now thinking making it myself 15% mix is it worth the hassel or do you get more miles to the gallon it works out that i am saving roughly 3p per litre but never mind taking a trip to local supermarket for the oil
when i used the bio before i thought i was getting more miles per gallon but it was hard to keep track because every week even if i didn't need fuel i just added more fuel on top anybody got any suggestions is it worht it

You say make your own.

What do you class as biodiesel when you talk about going to supermarket for the oil?

If you were running on 100% biodiesel you would get more mpg as bio has a higher cetane number than derv.

I am just wondering.......you guys that use 'bio diesel' how do you go on when it's MOT time and you have your emissions checked. :?: :?:

Bio-diesel is processed oil, usually from waste vegetable oil (WVO) not straight vegetable oil (SVO) which is wt you buy at tesco's.

Bio is to all intents and purposes a straight swap (or it should be if made correctly) for diesel its just that its a bit more green.

The government has signed us up to some or other European treaty/convention (whatever they're calling it this week) that commits us to using 5% bio in all diesel by some date in the future (can't remember) that then rises to 10% by a later date. France is already well ahead of us on this but a number of UK fuel companies are already putting a percentage in.

Bio is also available here and there to buy neat off the forecourt, sometimes pumped sometimes in plastic containers, if its been made correctly there are no issues with running it at 100% even in the cold weather we've been having, with SVO its a different matter.

hi,
any one seen this ? www.dieselveg.com what your opinion would it be worth doing i like the idea of two tanks though not sure if or how long it would take to be cost effective.

I've always found that my terrano runs well & returns good MPG when running on the cheapest french supermarket diesel - I've often wondered if it is becuase of the BD content. Interestingly I've seen a lot on some forums about using anti-gelling agents in biodiesel, indeed one local potential supplier won't sell it to me at the moment because of the lower temps, told me to come back in March.
