my tracking needs adjusting , so i booked it in because one of the front tyres is worn on the outside and the other is worn on the inside ( is this making sense ? ) .

my truck takes 265/70/r16

the garage didnt have any in stock , but they had a set of 245/70/r16 in stock , they said they would fit and probably improve my diabolical mpg .....are they correct ? and what disadvantages ?

thanks in advance

pete

I can't see how the difference in size would have any impact on the MPG at all, unless it is a 'green' type fuel saving tyre. But even then it would be minimal I think from the size you quote the diameter would be slightly smaller and thus would affect the speedo and milometer slightly giving the impression of greater MPG, or would it be worse? lol

I would also check with your insurance if you plan a size change just in case

out of interest what make/model are your old tyres and the new ones they have suggested?

They are correct in the MPG quote.

Its called rolling resistance, the more rubber you have in contact with the floor the more resistance the floor has on your car moving. Its the same as having a badly inflated tyer. Every 1.0 psi under infated will deduct 0.1 mpg of fuel

However, i dont think with that the difference is you would have ever noticed.

Its would read more than you have traveled.

Ei 2000 revolutions would get you 1 mile with a 265/70/16 but a 245/45/16 would leave you short. (This is only an example, and i did not check it) So what would happen is, if you put £10 of fuel in to get to work all week you would now need £12, but you would show an increase in miles on the speedo, so you may think they moved you work place further down the road. :lol

strange one a 245/70x16 is much smaller diamiter than a 265/70x16 the height is the percentage of the width of the tyre mpg wise its gonna be worse because the overall circumfrence is smaller.. as for the alignment bet its taking the passenger outer edge off & normally drivers inner edge off !

just changing the tyre tread to new would make mpg better as it wont be like driving slicks
but again with size they quoted u ur truck is going to be lower to ground and its no good having different sizes front and rear as would f##k the 4wd system and diff up if ingaged
my opinion briggie try another garage or order them online

after a bit of googling it seems that 245/70/r16 are the correct size tyres for my truck anyway
