I've never had to do it before and I'm stuck, I have 2.7tdi engine, year 2000.

I read a guide on here for adjusting tappet's but its for the td not tdi, mine is quite a bit different, with a great big viscous fan on top pulley!

Do I need to remove it?, how hard is it? Please help, Mark

several methods, big spanner on crank pulley from under neath, spanner on power steering pump pulley, (make sure the belt is tight) on level ground put car in 5th and move it backwards and forwards, drivers window down and while looking at rockers flick engine with key bit hit and mis and if you hold too long it may start so best to unplug big thick glow plug wire just above power steering pump, Rick

Thanks rick, I will tighten belt on steering pump and try that, tried today but was slipping. If that fails I'll get verniers on crank pulley nut and see what size it is.

Thanks again, Mark :thumb2

I find the pump pulley to be easiest to be honest and if you turn clockwise and put pressure on the belt tween pump pulley and water pump it will turn engine just fine, Rick
