sorry if i sound a bit thck but first 4x4

ive got a set off 15" steel rims for off roading and need some tyres.
is it best to go for slim tyres to cut through the mud or wide to get grip.
how can i get ground clearance without spendng a mint.

Thank you
Anthony

ebay

standard truck 31 x 10.5 x 15

you can lift it with terras springs 2" you could get 32" tyres then.

with eBay be careful what you buy, know what you are buying any damage walk away
know how much tread you should have. lots on there are nearly worn out they might look chunky on the pics but lots are crap

or buy new. but you want some compromise on road use really, its no good having good muds if your going to die when it rains on tarmac

do your research and dont buy the first thing you see

also if buing used make sure the still make them and they all match etc

Had 255 75 15 colways on old t2 with patrol steel wheels give wider track ,no problems apart ftom noise on motorway.

I found on my rangie that 750x16's cut through the crud well and gave me the best off road performance of any tyre, incuding the respected bronco range and I've tried most.
However on the nissan, there's a limited slip differential, so AT's will be better for me, for most uses, I'd recommend this, however, if you're going for muddy track laning and it's 80% of your cars' use, go for MT's, 235 70 15's or 235 80 15 if you can find them :)

Also, check the manual (cue Zippy) for the section about torsion bar adjustment, which will help you work out how to raise the front of the vehicle to near front-to-back level ( they usually sag at the front after a while which doesn't help approach angles), plus if you have them, remove side steps (six bolts each side) and towbar (three bolts each side).

Then try it and see, you may be pleasantly surprised how competent it is just in that state. :clap
