Glad to see this forum is still running.
I had to scrap (still hurts saying that) my 2004 terrano I had for 12 years about 2 years ago due to a brake failure that nearly resulted in a crash. And at that time money was tight and it seemed to be one thing after the other with it. And was reluctant to spend on it only for the next expensive problem to arise.

So since then have been car free just using my now 15 year old van that I have had for nearly 14 of those years.

But now hopefully on Monday I will be picking up 21 plate hilux with 6500 miles on the clock to hopefully see me out, not that I am expecting that any time soon.

This forum was a great help in the past when ever I needed advice so hope to pop in in the future and although it may not be a Nissan maybe garner some advice if need be.

Thanks

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that it was either a slave cylinder that went or a hard brake line flare that failed to it on rear axle?

While stopping at the shops i slowely braked to a stop when parking and the abs seemed to kick in and it shudder to a stop. Did not think much of it. Then for a couple of days all was working fine until while in slow moving traffic the traffic began to slow to a stop in front of me so I gently applied the brake and the pedal was rock hard and I wasn’t slowing down.
So there I was for what seemed an eternity literally standing on the peddle watching the car in front getting closer and closer when the peddle suddenly went down and I shuddered to a stop.

I was so glad this happened while driving slowly and the fact I have always left more space than most between me and the car in front while driving.

Interesting comment as I will face same decison in couple of months when my trusty 1997 Maverick MoT runs out. The dog and I have loved the past 6 years driving locally, she gets the back, with me upfront. But in that time just about everything has been welded back on the chassis and I think the next MoT in June the central body mounts will be targeted and I am getting old so that will be it for me. The problem then comes what to replace it with thats another swb, with simple reliable diesel technolgy sunroof, e-mirrors and windows and one air bag, no more modern options required as don't need or use them.

The hilux I am getting is the most basic model, steel wheels and no bells and whistles, but has only 6500 miles on it.

if I wanted bells and whistles on my budget I would have be looking at vehicles with closer to 100000 miles on the clock. So being that I hope to keep this for twenty years the low mileage was more important.

i feel everything is so high priced right now because in Five years time you will not be able to buy a brand new petrol or diesel car if the government get there way. So there is/going to be a finite quantity of these vehicles available. And the closer we get to the 2030 deadline the more prices are going to increase.

That's an interesting failure! I've never had one do that on me before

I never had it investigated as I did not have the money to fix it if was expensive. So just got it off the road and went home and rang the breakers.

Wish I'd have been the breaker :ROFLMAO:
