just added 3 gallons of distilled water to my batteries, did not expect them to go so low this time of year, summer yes they drink loads, but now? I think it must be something to do with cold air is dry air? anyway still coming to terms with two absent dogs one just before Xmas and one just after and the last and oldest is hanging on by a thread, how do you decide when to put them down she still wants to come to the car every day although she can only manage a few paces, and once in the car seems happy enough, but when they are in pain they do not show it, ???? Rick

I think it is something you "just know". When the time is right (wrong!), they have subtle ways of letting you know.

All the time they are responding and paying an interest in life, like she is, I think they still want to see a bit more of it.

We find that with the Ferrets, who are very good at hiding all pain, that once they really "Can't be bothered" any more, you can see it in their eyes, and the way they look at you, it becomes obvious what they are trying to tell you.

been with me now 16 years 6 months well old for a Jack, she seems happy here tonight, but I do not want to see her suffer, I am in tears now, by god it is hard, she fell in the stream this afternoon, took me 20 mins to get her out, she just does not know what she is doing, Rick

Wow Rick, I don't know what to say.

When we have had dogs in the past, provided that the dog is not in pain, sleeps well, and still is aware of you then it is very difficult to make a decision.
As their condition deteriorates and the dog looses its self pride ( Personal Hygiene) then you know the dog doesn't want this.

What can I say, When I was a child I had a dog that became totally blind, but had 100% trust in me, she would run along side me on beaches, where there were no tripping hazards. But it was clear when the time was near.

My thoughts are with you and your family.

take care,
Richard
