ok , so who is going to email nissan in japan to ask why its there :augie

what damage will the crap it caught on my mav do to my pump or injectors?

I am sticking with mine until I am convinced the crap will pass through without causing damage!

so I have to ask (not having a diesel) where has this crap come from as it is only 3 ft of pipe after the main fuel filter which filters to greater than 200 microns, the banjo filter can only trap around 10 micron bits, a lot bigger???? Rick

im stoopid so forgive my silly question , what if the fuel filter was clogged/blocked /not working ?

i spose what im saying is , if the filter isnt working as it should , is there a chance that a bit of poo could bypass it or get through ?

Mine was, it had no guts, max revs after a while 2000, then total hesitation

After cleaning what was described as like belly button fluff from it the mav went like a rocket

Where else less easy to clean would it have collected!

I am keeping it

Thats why i started this thread because

1. I don't know how it gets passed the filter...
2. I don't think it does anything other than hinder...

ive had a brainwave  ..... or is it  moment of stupidity ? .... what if the fuel filter became blocked , and you didnt have a replacement .... and decided to bypass the fuel filter by joining the pipes together ? ...... then the banjo filter offers some protection to the engine at least ....... maybe ?

Not daft & a possibility...

perhaps the belly button fluff was from the filter element.
how come the poll reads 125%.

Banjo filter

my understanding is if the fuel filter element is old /defective/breaking down.
then the banjo filter will collect the crap that escapes .
same system on some Cat and Volvo plant engines.
except they use double filters in line.

I took the banjo bolt out of the white pearl to clean mini filter out but there wasnt one or a spring.

Its a good time to remind people again to be very careful taking the bolt out and putting it back as its easy to cross thread and strip the threads.
then its an helicoil job.

Well I think I'm going to bin it as I have several 1995 td's now with good engines as back ups   :augie

I'll be the guinea pig :doh

It causes so many problems when blocked for myself & other members & the crap that is in it is microscopic so should pass through...

i think you inadvertently answered the question yourself.

if the banjo filter is collecting crap or dirt then it is doing a job and proving the paper filter is not adequate . so if id ever need to look for one and found it still intact , id keep it

maybe because its a multiple choice poll .... ie .... you can choose or vote on more than one option

My verdict so far

Bit more thirsty
More responsive
Revs better
Goes faster

No problems yet ( don't expect any )

Conclusion so far...

Was it put in for main filter failure :nenau as a form of limiter :nenau

Really no point in having it in my opinion :thumbs
