Is there anywhere to get a better ball hitch (i'm after one with a pin and clevis combined)something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dixon-Bate-Ja...ailers_Transporters_Parts?hash=item255755a452

the one i have is in the pictures attached, it is fixed with 4 bolts as apposed to the 2 as on my other truck, its handy to have the clevis for moving bits around the farm.

is there anyone who supplys a hitch to fit??

i have been pointed towards this, but it is a heap of money and overkill for what i want, being rated for 5t.

all input appreciated.

cheers.

my mate has one like that on his transit ...... might be worth a idea

I recognise that type of towbar, it's the early Nissan Towbar. You might be cheaper buying a seconhand towbar with a standard two bolt towball. This will allow you to fit the type of hitch you need. I'd be very surprised if you could find a ball n pin type to fit the 4 bolt. As far as I'm aware nissan/ford were the only companies to use that 4 bolt system.

its not mine,, ive got the four hole jobbie like yours,

the other is diferent uses the standard two fixing holes

those 4 bolters are stronger than regular 2 bolter despite bolts being
smaller. BUT like rocking horse do to find. once saw a 4 to 2 adapter
and didnt bid on it, then never seen again. i had same issue on my t2
ended up looking at new 2 bolt bracket back to chassis whic is over kill
but likely cheaper and easier unfortunately.

other depending on age of motor, ie pre s reg is look at a custom bar.

i was certainly eyeing up a receiver style, with 'socket' where number
plate is and moving plate to door/spare wheel area.

would then improve departure angle and use a drop plate for road
towing....the troll killed the plans though have wondered for it as well
except being x reg needs to comply with stricter eu regs on 'bars.

remembered mine was a witter.

not so much towing weight all are ok to 2800kg,
but not all could handle max nose weight of 140kg,
but witter could.

might be able to get some one to crete a 4 to 2 adapter
which would also usefully bring ball out fom under spare
wheel. i use to have issues with certain alko couplings
and had to open door to allow levers to move sometimes.

My original Ford tow bar was one of these, it is made by Brink.
I enquired with Brink (in Holland I think) about 12 years ago, and they said that re-drilling holes to suit a standard 2 bolt ball was not approved so if you make a claim on the insurance....... there may be an issue.
So I fitted a Witter which gave me a little more height for my 4 wheeled boat trailer, and allowed bike racks to be fitted etc.
Still got the old Brink, suitable for pre S reg vehicles. The Brink is a more substantial bar than the witter, but does the same job though.

Regards, Rustic

Brink probably made them for Nissan/Ford perhaps. Genuine Nissan towbars used to be the 4 bolt type when I worked for Nissan Dealers (until 1997).

I think rather than planning any mods like drilling holes it would be far easier to buy a second hand towbar from ebay or somewhere with the correct 2 bolt mounting, Job done:thumbs

def wouldnt drill out but maybe competent welder or tow bar speciallist
could sort an adapter. try an ebay search, mind only ever seen one.

was very close to buying one of those 3500/5000 kg hitches you listed
